Should Jonny Howson be more revered at matches?

I know he has a song, however it only seems to be sung about once a game on average and given how inevitably and glaringly obvious it was during his absence just how vital he is to this team, should we be more vocally appreciative of what a fantastic captain, professional and lynchpin he's proved to be during his time here?

I think he's massively underrated by many. Due to age etc.

Many times this season he looked the best CM on the park. Just so calm and make things look easy.

A massive miss over the 2 legs. I bet he's gutted that he never had the opportunity to effect the playoffs.
I think his stand-out game for us was last season against (a top-four-chasing) Spurs in the cup. Despite all their quality, he was the best player on the park that night, a class above everybody else. Strange to think that back in his first season under Monk, you could quite easily forget he was on the pitch at times...

I think his best performance or the one I remember most was away v Birmingham under woody. This was among the worst performances I have ever seen from the team. 10 of them were absolutely awful. Howson played right back and was an absolute class above every other player on the field bar Bellingham.

Howson deserves all the plaudits, outstanding career at Boro, one last promotion swansong please Jonny...

Potential song for Lenihan next season.

(To the tune of Yankee Doodle)

Super Daragh Lenihan, he is our Irish hero.
Came to us from Blackburn Rovers, cost us f***ing zero.
6 feet tall, hard as fu*k, a defender like no other.
Fu*k the Mackems and the Mags, cos we're the mighty Boro.

I love how when he's had to cover as a CB he is also the best central defender on the pitch as well. His reading of the game puts him above the vast majority of players.

We need him fit and raring to go for next season.

I remember quite a few people were critical of Howson when he first came. He has matured like a fine wine, he has an incredible engine and has been an integral cog in what this year became a well oiled machine. He reads the game so well, is a rock for his teammates. Boro’s ‘Mr Reliable’, rarely has a poor game, but when he does, so does the entire team. He is going to be ridiculously hard to replace within our current limited finances, I hope he has another full season in those legs.

He is so integral to the side that as you say, when he has a slow start to a game I think, oh no, this might not go well. Think Sunderland away last season was an example of it?

But these less than stellar games are few and far between.

I think that he wasn't an instant favourite because wasn't he signed more as a goalscoring number 10 type? Also the club was an absolute mess at the time he came in. He has certainly cemented himself into boro folklore though, let's hope he gets a promotion with us to put a cherry on the top.
