Skoda Octavia

We are looking to lease one or get one on a PCP later this month or early February. Does anybody on here have one or ever owned one?

I've read loads of reviews and watched a few videos on YouTube but I'm still a bit cautious of taking the plunge. Usually we'd go and have a look round a car ourselves and test drive it before purchasing but obviously that's out of the question at the moment.

Is the interior cabin space as big as they say it is in practical terms? I'm 6ft 4" and will have two kids seats on the back, one of which is rear facing.
Is the 1.0 L engine enough to pull the size of the car around?

Thoughts?

I've had at least 3 Octavia's and before that had a Superb.
Most roomy cars I've had, leg room front and back in excellent, boot is enormous as well for a family car.
Car is basically a Passat badged by Skoda, I have a 1.6L diesel, won't go as low as a 1.0L, they are fair sized cars.
Have had no problems at all and as above most taxis's around the country are Octavia's, so decent size, cheap to run and reliable.
Happy motoring 😀👍

I've currently got an Octavia and had a Superb before that. Interior space will be no bother for you. I would question a 1ltr engine pulling that size of car around though.

Octavia shares the same chassis as a Passat and Audi A4 I think. It's pretty much a VW as already mentioned, so should be good and reliable.

Skoda are part of the very reliable Volkswagon group (like Audi / Seat) and share very much the same DNA of the others in the group. They often have the exact same engines/platforms and suspension etc.

I I've had a couple of Skodas and a Seat Leon and they are basically the same as the more expensive Audi versions (parts wise) just without the expensive trimmings (it's usually the interior that suffers). Then again you probably get more gadgets as 'standard' in Skoda that would be on the extras list for others in the group.

You would have absolutely no issues with a Skoda. That's part of the reason they make up such large majority of Taxis. I saw one that had 187k miles on it😂

Skoda have been decent for years. The sporty VRS versions are just a Golf GTI in Saloon form. That said they have definitely increased in price as their reputation has grown.

Cheers.
I'll skip the 1.0 and look at the 1.5. We don't want a diesel as we don't do enough miles and the Golf we currently have has left a sour taste in our mouths with a multitude of issues. We've spent nearly £1000 on it over the past 18 months repairing it, 1.6 TDI, although it is 10 years old so to be expected I guess.

The 1.5 looks quite a power hike compared with the 1.0. I'd check insurance quotes as there will be quite a difference (group 12 to 18 on Parker's).

I currently have an Octavia. It’s a 1.4L TSI. I was dubious about a smaller engine but modern engines with turbo’s are quite surprising. Quicker than my previous car which was a 2.0L. You get a lot for your money with Skoda, as said previously same group as VW and Audi but without the added cost of both those badges. Has been the most reliable car I’ve owned

I believe the current Octavia is on the "Golf Platform" (the superb shares with the Passat). We run about five or six of them at work and they rarely give trouble and if they do the dealers are good and the warranties effective. Compared to the Audis that we also run which seem to have more niggles and cost more to put right, I know which I'd choose if it was my own money. That said I spent my own money on a Toyota...

Had a vrs, still miss it now. Not sure a 1.0l is powerful enough especially if you do motorway miles etc it's a heavy lump

Insurance isn't an issue for us. I've got 10 years no claims and the missus has around 7 I believe. She also uses a **** hot insurance broker for our insurance needs. 😀

Power! Would love a VRS but a bit out of our price range. 😭

Had a couple of the estate diesel version great car no bother with them at all. The amount of Taxi drivers that use them show how reliable and value for money they are

I have one with in between 125 HP and it is fairly nippy but I wouldn't drop to the 1 litre. Lots of room and big boot space as well.

I've gotta 1.2 TSI whip! Fine if its just me in the car laboured if 4 adults.Recon 1 litre would be a ball ache.

I’ve had 2 as work cars, both diesel estates.. 1st was 1.6 second was 2ltr which is much better for power. Love the space in the cabin but I’m small... good comfy seats front and back and good boot.. both also done 100k no bother although 1st had an oil issue???

hopefully getting another this year...

I've had several Skodas. They have been extraordinary reliable. The Fabia VRS 1.4 with the 180 bhp was a total pocket rocket. It was Auto only and better than the Merc 200 165bhp 1.32 T that is currently on the drive with less hassle and less useless Merc dealers.

I've also recently had a Superb diesel auto that was more than respectable with an enormous boot. I'd still be driving it if it wasn't for the stonking offer I got to swap to a Jeep

I think you might find that, contrary to popular belief, the 1 litre model is perfectly fine. 108bhp is fine for a car of this size - people need to rethink their engine size historical viewpoints.

Have you read the reviews of the 1 litre engine?

I've had an Octavia now for 2 years, cannot complain at all and fully intend to replace it with an other Octavia in about a year's time.

Engine sizing is not as important these days. It's more about the stunning amount of BHP they produce.

I had a ford Fiesta 1L ecoboost that produced 125bhp (they did a 140bhp version in the range). The engine looked tiny under the bonett.

Most 1L cars are probably quicker and have more BHP than 90s hot hatches.
