So now we have no army

What did the Tories say- "you cannot trust Labour with our defence"- this after reducing our armed forces to the level of Boy Scout troops. Cancelling the order for planes for our aircraft carriers. and relying on the French to give us air cover.

Its absolutley insane.

On the nuclear warheas thread - I said that wars these days are not 1980s cold war situations involving nuclear threats. Instead they are civil wars, ISIS threats and the like. You know, things that if you are going to help need feet on the ground.

Nevermind. We have a submarine armed with nukes - that will help with a complex civil war.

It's absolute madness.. scrap the nukes and build a state of the art defence grid developed in house for the cost of track and trace.

Feck it throw a space elevator in whilst you're there.

Nope I'll have US controlled nukes instead thanks.

If this reduces the possibility of our country interfering in oil rich regions then I am all for the reduction. I know to many former friends who I served with who are suffering from either long term ailments on operation Granby, Have mental health issues after serving in Bosnia , Iraq , Afghanistan or have drink, drugs or attachment issues that have been offered no support by either Labour or Tory governments.

My service goes back over 40 years ago now (seems like yesterday). Like you Lightweight, I Have seen some of my former mates hit the bottle, lose their families, been unable to settle in civvy street , lose their homes, jobs and slept on streets. Ended up in jail because crime was the easy and only option. I suffer from MH issues and take regular medication and am so lucky that I have a wonderful wife, although I have never told her of the cause of my MH. As I mentioned in a previous post, the government, no matter what colour, treats its ex forces people like sh1t.
FFS we have charities collecting money, clothes, donations- basically BEGGING to raise funds to help ex forces people with their unique problems/issues. That is not right. It is the government of the day which wanted us to do the stuff we did and they should fkn well pay.
Now 10,000 more squaddies will soon be leaving the forces. I really hope the support is put in place for them. Somehow I think it will be a repeat of 1918 when soldiers returned from the war to "a land fit for hero's" and found themselves on the dole

So when the next Gulf / Afghanistan happens we are fecked. The one thing sure in life is that conflicts will happen again.

That or they or they will do like they did in the navy. Make loads redundant (including big payoffs) then send them letters years later asking if they wanted to rejoin.

The armed forces is on the bones of its ass as it is.

Isnt this a case of Tory Government employing a Labour party policy? Is it a bad thing ignoring the fact who has done it.?

The Labour Party policy was to invest and strengthen our armed forces and upgrade our weapons and capability to make up for the numbers that had been reduced by the Tory government since 2010 so that we could play our part as a fully equipped and prepared NATO partner.
