Some people are saying the WC final was the best match ever played!!

"There are people on the pitch........they think it's all over......it is now!"🏆

The winners came from behind, last minute equaliser, some bloke scored a hat-trick and it wasn't settled with a penalty shoot out. Oh, aye and England won.🙂

I think the only thing dragging down last night's match was the fact 3 of the goals were penalties, 2 of them soft, and France were awful for 80 minutes.

But it was more than equal in drama to 1966.

Totally dominant team throwing away a 2 goal lead in 90 seconds right as they look to have cruised to a well earned title, both sides having chances to win it before the 90 minutes was up, goal-line technology scramble and seeming late winner causes wild celebrations from the Argentines, 118th minute equaliser and a hat-trick for Mbappe, then Emi Martinez makes an enormous save in the last minute to prevent France winning it and saves the decisive penalty in the shootout after that.

Obviously the fact England won will always make it a better and more important final to us English.

It was a great final. I was unsure about the winner until I saw the Argentina players during their anthem. They looked right up for it and I was convinced they would win.

For 70 minutes Argentina were winning the personal battles and had intensity France couldn’t match. The first French goal changed it and it looked like Mbappe would win it himself from that point.

Argentina did very well to recover and they definitely needed a few minutes to regroup before extra time.

The best thing about extra time is both teams tried to win it. Often both sides don’t want to lose and the game drifts to penalties. Not last night.

Incredible game considering the occasion. It had everything, such much drama! Well done to Argentina & the 🐐

Normally when these games come around, with the amount of hype it's given, and the fact it's labelled X v Y (Messi v Mbappe in this case), then the games normally flatter to deceive.

But last night, my goodness, neither player let the world down and the final was absolutely incredible....well after 80 minutes it was  .

A small mention to the ref too. I thought he got all the big decisions correct. The first penalty was soft, but technically a foul, the next 2 penalties were stone wallers, and then the dive by Dembele was a great spot. He did let a lot of 'tactical fouls' go without yellow cards, but in all honestly, none of us wanted to see a red card so fair play to the referee.

The referee's have been scrutinised all tournament (rightly so), but that referee last night deserves a lot of credit.

Nowhere near as good as our Steaua semi final comeback, now that was the greatest in my lifetime, probably will never be repeated the drama and sheer emotion on the night will live with me forever, can't say that about yesterday's final....

(Old fart alert) It reminded me of the 1979 Cup Final. Arsenal cruise to a 2-0 lead, nothing happens for 70 minutes then the whole thing goes insane. The last 50 minutes or so of game time were brilliant drama, probably caused by France having about eight strikers on the pitch. If that French shot had gone in in the last minute....

1970 world cup final knocks yesterdays effort into a cocked hat.

the European cup final at Hampden Park in 1960 was better in terms of football played.

there have been plenty of football finals that were better than yesterdays game

In terms of quality of football, maybe, but is one team absolutely hammering another team 4-1 really as good in terms of drama?

im interested in football skills, application and personal/team performance- scorelines are deceptive - when Boro beat sheff wed 8-0 in 1974, it was by no means the best performance or game of the season.

if i wanted drama i would go and watch The Mousetrap at the theatre.

should i want loyalty i would get a dog

if i want a pint of beer i go to the pub

if im hungry i go to a restaurant

life can be simple and straightforward, dont get it mixed up with chatter, others standards or media induced emotion.

Great games are rarely great for the full 90, its about the moments, the twists and turns and dramatic outcomes.

This final had two of the best players in the world give us the moments, you had a comeback that seemed really unlikely until it actually happened across 90 seconds of madness. You then had an end to end extra time which never happens and on the biggest stage with both teams scoring. Then ending in the only third penalty shoot out in a WC final.

This all in the biggest game in football.

Certainly not the greatest game of all time, but has to be one of the greatest World Cup Finals ever.
