Spanish Property

Hi all - I know that buying property abroad often comes up on here.
I was looking at the South of France but after watching A Place in the Sun - I've started to consider Spain.

It looks like great value but where do you start to look?

Any recommendations from people living there or planning a move??

Many thanks in advance

You can get that on the Costa Blanca, some lovely quieter spots heading south from Alicante itself.

We're going to go the rental route though.
I've got 2-3 years (maybe more) left to work - Thinking about doing a camper trip to have a good mooch about - just need to narrow down the areas a bit.

I'm looking at property in the San Miguel de Salinas area at the mo.

I intend / hope to fly south for the winter (end Oct to end Feb) when I retire, been looking at Andalusia from Portugal border right round to as high as Javea area) for about 20 years now and think SE Spain away from touristy spots is the area I’m leaning towards. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford to do it. I reckon I’ve got 10 years left of work 🤞

what sort of price bracket are you looking at - if you don't mind me asking?

We are thinking around the £150k mark

I was looking higher than that but since the divorce I will be looking lower than that. I think I’d like an old fashioned townhouse in a real Spanish town rather than a villa. It’d have to be capable of being somewhat lock up and leave.

The northern Costa Brava is worth a look if you want somewhere without loads of British tourists although it's very expensive

I like that area too but it's warmer in the south during winter.

I spent a winter month in Cabo Roig and loved the walking along the coast there. Found some nice smaller towns on the Mar Menor, closer to Murcia airport than Alicante.

Yeah, winter warmth is what I’m looking for really. Increasingly less of a fan of the cold grey British winter as i get older. Would never fully emigrate though, just want to winter in sunnier / warmer climes.

This is my dream for the future. Love the idea of living abroad for the cooler months and heading back when things warm up.

Good luck to you all who are considering it👍🏻

Got to say each winter seems to get harder as you get older. Not sure about buying somewhere abroad however come retirement I’m anticipating flying out first week of January and coming back mid March, plus having a holiday in November for a fortnight.

Don’t mind December so much with the build up to Christmas, plus spring and summer are fine as well.

You've never worked 10 years ya idle get! Best wishes from row 26 👍 hope your retirement dreams come true, they're very similar to ours

If Covid ever leaves us, I am planning 4 months a year in Goa when I retire. You can’t buy though but rents for long stay can be very cheap, plus the food and guaranteed sunshine are great for old bones. Not planning to retire for another 10/12 years yet though.

The obvious areas are Marbella, Costa Blanca etc But I'm interested in a quiet life with not too much tourism.
I went to magaluff years ago and stayed in a 1 key room above a night club . After a few days of drinking etc we went to Palma nova which was a pleasure for a bit of quiet life so maybe look there
