Spanish Property

Hi all - I know that buying property abroad often comes up on here.
I was looking at the South of France but after watching A Place in the Sun - I've started to consider Spain.

It looks like great value but where do you start to look?

Any recommendations from people living there or planning a move??

Many thanks in advance
I lived in the Costa Blanca a while back and thought that places there such as Javea and Moreira were my favourite locations. A good mix of locals and non Spanish.
Great area to live.

We non EU members are allowed to stay in Spain for 9 weeks in and 9 weeks out methinks.

It's 90 days without a visa. You then have to leave for 180 days. That's your lot as far as travel goes in the Schengen area. The 90 days can be split.

Brexit hasn't done any favours to those looking to travel in retirement.

I lived and worked in San Pedro de Alcantara and can recommend that as a nice little Spanish town with a beach. A couple of miles from Port of Abuse and Marbella, if that sort of thing floats your boat, but a totally different vibe. Reasonable beach with some good restaurants and a long promenade, which is lovely on summer eves. Close to Estepona and all he golf courses but far enough away to be away from costa del Brit. Really great for access into the mountains/national park.

We have a place in Carvajal, itā€™s in between the very British Benalmadena and Fuengirola, but is pretty quiet and has a couple of great restaurants. Itā€™s on the train line from Malaga so really easy access too.
Itā€™s worth reading up on how long you can stay, community fees, IBI and other tax requirements etc so youā€™re fully informed. Feel free to send a message if youā€™ve got any questions

Almost, itā€™s a max 90 days in any 180 and can be spread, 90 on 90 off if you do a full stretch. Iā€™ve been coming and going to Lanza since we opened back up and the old Schengen days are dropping off my calendar now. So as long as you donā€™t want to spend three months solid itā€™s ok. Weā€™re spending roughly one month on and one off. But you donā€™t have to leave for a full 180 days.
, if you spent a full 90 here youā€™d have to leave for 90.

Forget the mainland get out here to the Canaries for all year round sun šŸ˜‰

That 90 in any 180 is good to know, Iā€™d interpreted it being in a calendar year ie 180 total per year so you could do 180 straight over winter (90+90 either side of New Yearā€™s Day) though with it being 10 years away Iā€™d not really looked in detail at the rules yet, so I guess Iā€™ll revise my earlier aspirations to being Dec/Jan/Feb (90 days) over the winter. Thanks

No probs, quite a few arenā€™t understanding. Itā€™s got nothing to do with calender years, just any 90 in a rolling 180.

Didnt remember them writing that on the side of a bus mind šŸ˜‰. Itā€™s a bĆ¼gger for those that live out here over the winter then rent out over the summer to pay the mortgage, and thereā€™s a lot of them.

I'm not sure about your interpretation. I read it as "90 days in any 180" which I assume means you have to leave on day 90 and aren't allowed back until day 181. I have not read the regs recently, so I might be mistaken. You would have to leave the EU, it's a Schengen reg.

You are correct if you stay for the full 90 in one go, although the oldest days drop off all of the time, so day 97 you could come back for 7 days for example. We come about month on month off so are generally ok.

You can download a Schengen calculator online to keep track. Just locking up to come back to the UK now šŸ˜•

Weather wise - the Canaries and Madeira are the warmest in the Winter - no snow or frost.
I think I read that the coldest ever recorded here in Lanza was 9 deg C, but couldnā€™t swear by it. Rained two days ago and thatā€™s the first Iā€™ve seen here for two years, although Iā€™m told there was some end Oct.

Look at idealista.com or fotocasa.es

On idealista you can change language to English

There are loads of English speaking estate agents in the popular tourist areas but you'll probably pay a bit extra.
