Spence and Wood, dear me

I am not willing to write off Spence’s entire future career on the back of one example of not tracking his runner. Other than that he had his usual game. He worked himself into a few good positions overlapping Tav but his final ball and decision making was consistently dreadful. It once again confirms my belief that the only position he can possibly play is right wing back. He can’t be trusted to keep his defensive concentration at right back and his final ball is too errant for him to be considered a viable choice at right wing but at right wing back he has a chance of making the grade.

On a wider note, it doesn’t give me a great impression of the quality of coaching in the academy that Spence, Wood and Folarin have all looked incredibly raw and naive in their basic game awareness when they have played this season. Hackney looked like he had a bit about him but you would expect that in any decent central midfielder.

Totally agree about Spence! Awful player his decision asking is terrible. He always tries to do too much and not keep it simple. With regards to Wood he wasn’t great yesterday, that’s down to lack of game time and experience, that will come though.

The goal came from Spence losing the ball on the edge of their box when he had 5/6 men infront of him. The lads final ball is, more often than not, terrible. Which is a shame because he gets in some great positions. He also gets sucked inside too many times which, yesterday, left Wood wide open.
