Spence - Record sale?

I am surprised some still think Jones is better than spence. I don't get it. Jones is about on par with how spence played when he first arrived and looked on a similar trajectory by the end of the season.

Not knocking either of them, they are young lads learning their trade.

By the end of the season spence looked clearly the better player.

Look at he stats between them. Jones offers a lot more. Goals assists etc

If spence was as good or better than Jones he’d of cemented himself as in his position ages ago . There is no comparison based on last season , hopefully Jones will carry on how he started last season .

I don't disagree with the stats but I do disagree with your conclusion. I am reasonably confident that Jones may well end up better, but he isn't at the minute.

Jones suffered as pretty much every team we played against in the second half of the season doubled up on him.

They could do that as, offensively we had little down the left side of the pitch.

Next season with the addition of Giles most teams will struggle to commit two players to cover Jones 🤞🤞

For those first 10-15 games under Wilder Jones created pretty much everything that we did, and caused opponents an absolute nightmare, which also ended up being our best period of the season, by a mile.

After those games sides set up much tighter to him, and practically altered their entire game plan to counteract our only option. This would have been fine, had we had another good option top attack elsewhere, but we didn't, not to the same level or anywhere near. We had a similar problem with Traore (but Traore was better of course).

During that period Jones was probably the best winger/ wing back in the league (and reached a height higher than any other imo, and backed up by independent player ratings), but playing pretty much every minute of game every game, us trying to get the ball to him as often as possible and being kicked the hell out of in every single one of those minutes didn't help him. I think he tailed off a little at the end, as rumour was he was carrying some knocks, and obviously the oppo catered for him much more.

Forest's oppo didn't even try to shut down Spence, as they had many more options elsewhere, so I suppose he got an easier ride from it, but he still tailed off at the end. I was keeping a keen eye on Spence during this time (like most of us were) and he didn't seem anywhere near the level which the comms were raving about in the weeks prior (or even at that time).

I think the comms just notice Spence more when playing, effectively due to his gangly frame and dreadlocks, he stands out a mile. But from what I saw he hadn't improved much from when he was here and he never had a run of high performing games here like Jones did. I think the comms just started to hype, then started believing their own hype.

I think next year, with us having a good option on the left also, we're really going to see what Jones is made of, as he's going to get space to play. If he doesn't we'll get space on the left which Giles will exploit.

There's clearly a player in both of them, but from what I've seen, Jones is capable of a higher level and seemingly has a far better attitude. Jones has also go there with far less experience, it being only one year in the Champo compared to three with Spence.

I'm glad the comms have hyped up Spence and not Jones as much, as the best we could have hoped for.
