Sri Lanka v england 1st test

Think that's 8 test wins on the bounce , and 4 on the trot overseas for the first time in over 50 years.
Was it just a few months ago some posters were calling for root to go ?

still major issues with the openers though

The proof will be in the pudding next winter. Fair to say Root's role is safe until then I think, plus the 3 current openers (Burns/Sibley/Crawley) will all be in the squad and I doubt we'll experiment with anyone new this summer.

Positives everywhere else, this is the only part of the team that struggled both innings. Can't be easy for those two mind you, inexperienced at Test level in general, inexperienced on those pitches in that climate too and generally very under prepared with cricket under their belt this year. I don't imagine they have faced new ball spin bowling at all before.

What a gorgeous setting for a cricket ground, by the way.

aye you're right mate. other areas looking good with options. 4 matches against India will be a good test though. wonder what it will be like with no fans in the stadiums there as usually the atmosphere is crazy

Another win in the next test and we still have a chance of qualifying for the final of the World Test Championship, although we are likely to need to beat India 3-0
