Starmer ditches his 10 Pledges

Just thinking: when Corbyn was the Labour leader, he managed to force Cameron into U-turns on tax credits in 2016, and later on £4bn in cuts to disabled people's personal independence payments. Whereas Starmer has not only failed to force the Government to change its mind on universal credit, the triple lock or national insurance rises, he's also failed to effectively campaign about these issues.
So instead of removing the whip from Corbyn, perhaps Starmer might be better off ringing him for some advice.

nothing 'hard left' in those Corbyn policies - just defending the interests of the british people - middle ground i would call that.
Cameron had next to no majority.

Corbyn left Starmer with an 80 seat deficit to contend with.

You try forcing any u-turns as an opposition leader in those circumstances and see how you get on.👍

Pretty certain Joe would have been a Corbynista.

i'm not aware that he was in the L.P. - but if he had have been, he would have been expelled for writing 'Tommy Gun' & making the call of 'Punks for Palestine'. - thats how daft this present LP is.

meanwhile he would be railing against a tory govt and making the point that we all have a responsibility to remove them - you cant claim to be a Clash fan and be a tory - the two dont mix - look at the moniker of the clash drummer on the first records and album, Tory Crimes !

The Clash - "I think people should know that we are anti fascist, we're anti violence, we're anti racist and we're pro-creative. We are against Ignorance"
Tory crimes was a glib name because terry chimes had left the band, the clash were a great band but didn’t alway live up to their manifesto, last gang in town by Marcus gray is the definitive book on them.

Terry Chimes was 'Tory Crimes' - that was his 'punk name' - just like 'joe strummer' was Johns 'punk name'

i prefer Johnny Green's book A Riot of our Own - he was there, he was thee clash roadie.

Redemption Song if you want it a bit more highbrow - chris salewicz - joes auto is probably the best written.

but whatever way you want it, you cant be a Clash fan and a Tory.

* grant shapps is Mick Jones' cousin !! - and as 'grant shapps' isnt his real name, we can call it his 'tory name'
Read them all, as joe said “ **** politics, let’s dance”.🎸

The reports from the party conference aren't very encouraging.

Apparently CLP delegates are receiving disciplinary emails refusing to let them attend just hours before. So no time for the CLPs to replace them, meaning no or less representation for them. And must be very disappointing (and expensive!) for the individuals involved.

The Young Labour rally event was listed as 'cancelled' on the conference app despite not being so. Seems like a really petty thing to do. Although from the photos online it looks as though the room was full anyway.

David Evans confirmed as gen sec on a 59-41 vote. Shame cause he seems to be behind these dodgy tricks.

And apparently Starmer's given up on bringing back the Electoral College voting system for party leader, but now wants to raise the number of PLP nominations it takes to get on the ballot. I still think he'd only be putting this effort in with the leadership rules if he wanted out soon.

Can anyone say Starmer's making good moves at the moment?

He's dropping pledges that have majority support in the country, never mind just the party. Making himself look like a conniving little liar at worst, an empty headed flip flopper at best. And he's doing it at the worst possible moment as a strategy because it's right when the current systems are in collapse.

Like Corbyn he's not a leader,( obviously more intelligent than magic grandpa), now labour are infighting about comments over people with cervix's,.Talk about fiddling while Rome burned.

I tell you where we are. The worst Tory Government in years in power and Labour are infighting (again) because a load of Corbyn luvvies can't get their head around the fact that they had their chance and failed.
The problem is that a lot of those "Corbyn luvvies" feel that the chance they had was taken away by the people now running the show.

Had the Labour-right just got behind Corbyn and his fairly moderate socially aware policies then a failure could've, quite rightly, been blamed on him/them.

As it is the 'Centrists' went out of their way to undermine Corbyn and the moderate left won't forget that in a hurry.

...the Corbynites would rather remain in opposition, in fight and stand by their principles whilst the country goes to the dogs.
How is this any different from what the Centrists did in 2017 & 2019? They are the ones who kept Labour in opposition.

...the majority of the hard left of the party will vote for Labour as anything else is voting Tory.
The thing is, your beloved Centrist brigade are the ones who decided to actually VOTE for the Tories rather than some moderate left policies.

You can't pick and chose who votes for you. You guys are all stuck in the past. Stop arguing, get behind Starmer and get the election won.

But I can pick and choose who I vote for.

Just as the Centrists did in 2019.

If Starmer can't excite Middle-England enough then that's on him; not the people he's repeatedly thrown under a bus (no not THAT one).

🤣 on page 1 of this thread you're calling half the party "Corbyn luvvies" and a disease! Severe cognitive dissonance!

Page 1?? Time to move on lad, that's in the past too! we are on Page 5 now.

Forever in the past these Corbynites - any excuse for an argument. The country will never be able to unite against the Tories with this kind of attitude ;)
