Remember the derision when Corbyn suddenly announced the free broadband policy? The Labour campaign was messy and lacked proper planning and structure.
Isn't that the key point? The campaign was poor.
I don't think the problem was with the policies, they were generally very popular.
They also weren't as far left as most of the media tried to portray. Socialist yes. But only in the way countries like Sweden or Denmark are socialist. They certainly weren't communist or Marxist or whatever the daily Heil would have people believe.
They needed to be campaigned on and communicated better. A bit of "spin" wouldn't have hurt either. And yes, free broadband as one of your headlines was F***ing stupid (although the policy itself was sensible, but perception matters in politics and it was always going to attacked that one).
Anyway point being the country will vote for a party with socialist policies, they're popular. Labour just needed to be much smarter about it.
Starmer is too cautious for me. He doesn't need to be radical, but I think he's far too wary of the right wing media.
I'll be voting to remove the Tory crooks either way, but it is frustrating.
