Steffen: Keep or Dump?

If he’s available from Man City for a couple of million tops and if he’ll accept £20k per week max it’s a decision we can debate otherwise it’s pointless as we frankly can’t afford him.

The ball is in his court but he won’t be getting first team football unless on loan as no one in the prem will be in for him I’d think.
Might be avail for free to be honest.

Keep, we got to the play offs as a team and he was part of it. I like the way he plays and think with a bit of coaching, he can cut out some of the silly errors. He's an international, so he's not exactly wet behind the ears.

I'm not sure if it's a better keeper we need or defenders who are better at giving and receiving the ball. Playing out from the back in the final, we put ourselves under pressure several times and were our own biggest enemy.

I'm sure Carrick will know which one it is. Do that.
Agree with you there mate, defensively we’ve been found wanting at times so there has to be more focus into bringing in the right defenders during the summer. Smith possibly gone past his shelf life date, Fry is too injury prone while Giles isn’t a defender, and therein lies our biggest problem.

As far as Steffen is concerned I think like many he’s definitely better than our last few keepers but I’m not too sure how good? Moreover if he’s going to cost £30-49k a week then I’m not too sure if it’s really good business.

Not fussed. Most of top 6 didnt have a sweeper keeper as such. Ratger have a keeper who commands the box, savea shots, and makes less errors than one who sets up attacks

Steffan did improve after a ropey start (remember QPR's second goal @ Loftus Road) to become one of the better quality keepers in the Championship, but I haven't seen enough to say he's special (say Stephen Pears or Mark Schwarzer ability). I do think there is potential to develop and improve with more experience.

Keep on around £25k/week be it loan or free.

Dunno, think a lot of fans have already made their minds up - he's shyte.

Same ones who thought Pears was "too small" and Schwarzer " couldn't kick it long enough".......

🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
Hah you brought memories back there, the bloke I used to sit next to at Ayresome Park reckoned Pears was always beaten on his right hand side and my Dad, now sadly gone, never rated Schwarzer at all!!

It’ll be Zack’s choice not ours. Can’t see him or any of the loan players, maybe Giles or Mowatt being back.

Pears was over rated to be fair, if you watch the video to his season in the top flight it was a horror show from him. Was superb the two seasons previously. tTop tier two player not quite up to top flight.

Schwarzer is the best keeper we have ever had and by some distance he was a world class keeper

Not to dump but we will move on, he will cost too much in wages, so time for a realistically priced keeper.
He will leave Man City in the summer, therefore they won't be stumping up most of his wages.

Yes I liked Schwarzer and he was particularly good at commanding his area in away games, my Dad had good memories of Ugolini….

He’s a perfect fit for us - has to come back if we can get him as he’s just got better and better, and obviously knows exactly how we play now

City signed him from Germany didn’t they? I think City will want too much for him, wages will be prohibitive and clubs with far deeper pockets will be in for him.

Apart from these factors we might be in with a chance!!!!
