Neighbour has an electric car. Dont know what its like to drive but he took great pleasure in informing me yesterday that it costs about 7 quid to fully charge at home, with range of over 300 miles. Meanwhile I'm paying 50+ for a tank of petrol ☹

It probably wasn't in winter, he'd be lucky to get 250 on a long run in winter, from a quoted max WLTP range of 300. Always take 20% off for long/ winter trips.
250 is still great though, and more than anyone likely needs if they have a home charger too, around 35k is a pretty good price, the total cost of ownership on that for a new car will be very low over 3 years.
