Sunak as corrupt

When power is gained through lies, deception and corruption it will be held onto through lies, deception and corruption, as a nation we tolerate behaviours from those that govern that we really should not and by doing that we get the governance we deserve, it seems that without playing the dishonesty game you have no chance of success in political life, we’re the Tour de France of parliaments and corruption and lies are political EPO.

Slightly smaller note but I've just had a letter from Tory Mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey about Sadiq Khan bankrupting TFL. Despite the fact he's gone a long way to redressing the OVER SEVEN BILLION pounds Boris Johnson managed to lose for them.

They are wholeheartedly embracing Trumpian politics now aren't they? Not even an attempt to finesse the lies or take a truth and slightly alter it. It's now just blatant out and out lying and attacks on the opposition. To actually blame a Labour mayor for something a Tory mayor (who now happens to be prime minister) isn't an egregious level of corruption like Sunak but it does highlight how brazen the dishonesty is.

They should have a formal process for this stuff and Sunak should have pointed DC to that process. Issuing the texts as others have said is really not a defence at all regardless of the content of the texts. If that sort of informal channel is open to some you can bet that it is abused in other situations. The gvt should be coming out and saying this is the process and this is the only process we will use for ANYBODY(ex pms included) in this situation.

But if they come down on this now, they'll be worth far less to investment banks, lobbying companies and political consultancies once they leave office. It's a catch-22!

Interestingly the Freedom of Information request that resulted in these texts being released asked for copies of the correspondence between the chancellor and David Cameron.

The treasurer refused to release David Cameron's part of the correspondence on the basis that 'These communications were made by David Cameron in his capacity as an employee of Greensill, and with an expectation of confidence. ' I'll bet they were.

Why is it when Labour do something wrong it's Labour, but when Tories do it it's all MPs?
Or just when any MP does something wrong it’s all MP’s.

Those still obsessed with party politics need to realise that the vast majority are only in it for one reason alone.

I often wonder why very wealthy men, and it’s mainly men, like Sunak are drawn to politics - it’s certainly not the pay (even when you include expenses). The PM earned twice as much when he was a columnist.

edit: I don’t often wonder as it’s pretty bl00dy obvious why

I think the PM is a bad choice as he was unable to hold down his jobs as a columnist owing to his consistent untruths.

It’s a shame they can’t treat the greensills of the world like they treat drug criminals. A nice proceeds of crime order to take back his ill gotten gains as you can bet your bottom dollar despite the failure of the business he won’t be penniless or homeless having wasted our money!!

It’s now beginning to reach endemic proportions of corruption. But it’s been going on for many years.
Too often there are literally no rules that have the force to stop it happening
Still it’s relying on the “Moral Compass or Principles of the individuals concerned, at a time these seem to have become extinct.
This is evidence given to a select committee by Ian Hislop and one of Private Eyes senior journalists on the corruption contained in the Revolving Door syndrome. It’s almost 1 hour long, but worth a look.

Whilst I'm not naive enough to think that corruption is exclusive to the right, I do think that Conservative parties well documented (not to mention those not so well documented) links to big business, is a starting point that is inclined to a fundamental conflict of interest.

It's no coincidence that big big business bank-rolls the Conservatives, which infers a kick-back is expected in return.

Add to that that many very rich men also bank-roll certain MP's, in a bid to garner more political persuasion, then it leaves a very corrupt and prejudiced starting point.

Brexit, or rather what Brexit represents for its supporters, has been cynically adopted by the right wing, securing a majority in doing so. It's a massive political con, pulled-off in plain public view and no one seems to care, or at least not enough of us.

Big business and the super rich are the real power brokers, more so now than ever before.
