T20 Tonight

I did. You can’t blame T20 on Burns and Hameed techniques or Pope batting on off with is head a foot outside off stump. Our summer schedule is to blame along with the coaching and hopeful this will be changed to favour the longer game more. Other teams cope with playing test and t20.
I think you answered your question for me by stating the poor performances of Burns, Hameed, Pope, etc.

The shorter game has been pushed to the forefront of cricket to bring in the crowds and for me personally, this is the issue. Batsmen are more used to playing limit overs and this has eroded traditional batting techniques to the point where, faced with a difficult pitch or a fast bowler, many batsmen do not possess a solid enough defense to survive, let alone score runs. When was the last time you watched someone like Geoffrey Boycott sit at the crease and dictate play? We just don't have anyone with the mindset or skill to play a long innings.

We can't blame the batsmen for not practicing the skills to survive in Test matches, why would they spend time developing a solid defense when a few swings of the willow can earn them lucrative contracts in the IPL, 100, etc.

As long as T20 continues to dominate cricket, we will see performances in Test series that we witnessed in Australia. The only way to avoid such situations is for the ICC to reinstate Test cricket as the No 1 form of the game and we all know that isn't going to happen.

An abject performance in a T20 hardly advances your point about the shorter game being the issue with our batting in Test matches.

I do agree that the quality of English cricket is low in the longer form and that is the fault of the coaching. Again Ive made this point before NZ and Australia and India have all moved emphasis on to the shorter form of the game but their test teams have not suffered in the way that England's has. Its too easy to lament the advancement of T20 and 100 and big bash stuff as the cause of England's test demise but to me it comes down to coaching. And in that respect Englands coaching set up has been found wanting.

I agree with you regarding the defeat but feel that result hopefully was a one off and we will get back to being the team that evet other nation wanted to avoid in the WC.

Coaching plays a huge part in the demise of all formats of English cricket but I also think where cricket is ranked as a sport in Britain plays a part.

How do other nations cope then? New Zealand have a significanfly smaller pool of players yet are solid across all three formats?

Cricket, like any other national sport is generational and the current generation of test players struggle to compete against other players. I do however think the best cricketers coming through will by and large be picked off to become white ball specialists so it's difficult to fix really.

Win or lose tonight the difference between the white ball team and the test team is Eoin Morgan will make sure they perform better this time

😂😂
The look of surprise on the umpires face as he stands up after ducking to see Moin Ali holding the ball in his hand.

ps Not sure what the other umpire's watching.
