Targett and Browne

What are the general views on whether we should aim to bring them in on permanent deals (assuming we're in the Championship)?

Targett i would say yes but certainly don't break the bank on wages. He's a good pro and and also covered effectively when needed at CB. Maybe just a little too steady when we're trying to break teams down.

Browne i would've said a definite yes a few months ago. Not against it, good pro, good cover, has got a few goals, but i'd be assessing other options first.

Browne 100% when Hackney goes we have only Morris as a senior central midfielder. Even if Browne isn’t a nailed on starter he’s a great squad player.
I wouldn’t persue Targett, he’s been good but not great, and he’s used to being on 100k a week, I doubt he’s gonna take a massive drop off, he’ll get a prem move on good wages I’d expect.

Browne is a really good squad player, he is perfect to see a game out and even for a starting position on occasions...its a no brainer.
Targett will come down to wages? I could see a relegated club maybe come in for him?

Played a lot, good enough, available cheap/free - they are shoo-ins for me. If we'd have 2/3 more players of their quality to bring on Tuesday we'd likely have won the tie. On top we MUST bring in pace and power at the top end, a finisher, and another credible option in goal.

Browne versatility and ability makes it a definite yes for me. Covers a number of roles well and when he’s on it, he’s very good. Presumably wouldn’t break the bank.
I like Targett too, but wonder if we’ll go back for that American kid and get a deal done this summer.

Don’t think we’ll get Targett unless he takes a huge pay cut.

Browne I would buy on the cheap (if we can) as a squad or utility player. Definitely need to upgrade the central midfield options when Hackney goes. Browne is a solid pro but not good enough to be a regular starter in the middle of the park, if promotion is our aim.

Targett has spent much of the second half of the season playing with a niggling injury. Both hit a wall second half of the season really and would have both benefited from more time on the bench, but the squad just didn’t allow it.

Both would be a good buy but unsure if Targett is financially viable given his wages. He would need to love it here enough to take a pay cut.

Targett is a superb footballer and has been excellent all season. However if we are going to be playing 5 at the back more often next season then for me we shouldn't be considering him. Just don't think he has the energy and pace for that role. Some of his overlapping runs look like they are in slow-mo. However as a LB in a back four he is a great option but as said above will be expensive.

Browne would be a great addition to the squad and can cover a number of positions. However wouldn't want him first choice. Think he has been short of what we have needed the last few months

you say he's not going to take a massive drop off but he will have no choice. It's just a question of whether there's interest from other clubs, perhaps one with parachute payments.

I would definitely try and get both.
Isn't Targett out of contract? He'll be taking a huge pay cut anyway. We may still be the best offer he gets unless one of the promoted clubs go for him which I doubt.

Yes to both for next season in The Championship.

We need to bulk up our squad depth with these exact type of profile of players.

Both of these have been very good signings this season and have proved their value.

Whilst we need to add players for the starting XI what is also clear is we need a bigger squad and players from the bench who can more than match what we start with. Browne very much fits that criteria so he is a definite for me.

I would also take Targett but obviously his wages would be the only blocker i can see.

Both I'd say yes to, but the terms need to be reflective of what they are.

Targett is coming off a huge contract at Newcastle so needs to be realistic of what we can offer and what he wants at this stage of his career. He could probably earn more being a squad player at a bottom half prem team, but play less. Whilst he is a free, he offers zero resale value, so the club need to weigh up whether it would be better to invest in a player with lower wages but we could potentially profit from in the longer term.

As I've just put in another thread, I'd take Browne but on utility squad player wages. We have to aim higher for HH replacement.

If we get Targett, we need another left back to alternate with him, Targett is a cultured left back but can't make overlapping runs.

Another full back with pace who can knock a good ball in, so we can change shape when needed.

I'd be open to keeping both, but as others have said, heavily dependent on wages. We shouldn't be breaking the bank for either.
