That goal we just conceded was awful

I think when you're one on one as a keeper like that and someone smashes it close in to the body flat you have little chance.

They had a 1:1 and scored. We had one and missed. That's football.

Still confident we'll win but that was shocking haha, Giles missing his header, steffen not getting enough on it. Rare we have a comedy of errors leading to a goal
Hopefully that wakes the lads up, we'd laid off a little since we scored.
Come on Boro

The pass was sublime though!! proper punched the ball with pace and caught out the defender.

I thought Steffen could have done better for the goal to be honest but as said above he was excellent for the remainder of the game and made some great saves. On balance, it was still a very good performance.

Giles was the main culprit for their goal. That was a slow lofted cross field ball that he totally mis judged. There was no reason at all to mis judge that and miss the header. He didn't even have to attack it unless he was 100% sure he was going to clear it. He could have just sat in. It left him miles out of position and couldn't recover. They went from a relatively loose cross field ball, into a one on one situation instantly because of Giles' poor play.

Giles flicked it on perfectly to their player, which was irritating, made it a much more dangerous opportunity.

I get why he leapt for it, and it's obviously hindsight, but it would have been far less of a chance if he'd just ran back instead.

He was utterly exposed and it was a good finish. He didn't move his feet fast enough, but then the lad smacked it off a short back lift from about 8 yards so he hardly had the time to move.
They played that long ball to expose Giles many times. Giles misjudging the interception left a run in on goal and Steffen was poor letting the ball easily through him. It was poor goalkeeping as highlighted by commentators and reporters.
He did make a good stop from the header and an excellent stop from Smallbone just afterwards.
You could argue he cost us going in to half time one up and ultimately meant two points dropped.
You could fairly argue that the two saves in the second half saved us a point.
The outfield 10 played poorly in the main, McNair and Akpom aside.

Got to say it was a fantastic first touch by their player to react and adjust to the touch by Giles. Put him straight in on goal. The lads a talent.

Would not be blaming Steffan as much as Giles for that goal. Anyway it was a good point in the end considering Stoke were well on top in the second half. They’re in good form and they’re a big strong physical side, and we seem to struggle against those type of teams. Alex Neil obviously did his homework on us and those long angled balls down our flanks caused us all sorts of problems. We looked tired in that second half and very nervous - i guess the pressure to win got to us a little. Preston could be another similarly tough game, and they have a shout at the play offs too.

You should be licking your lips at playing Stoke and Preston at home.
Burnley at home is a tough game, Bristol City away and Luton away are tough games.
Last night was 2 points lost from a winning position. Of course it happens, but it doesn’t stop it being a missed opportunity. Thankfully the players know it was.

Steffen didn't cover himself in glory for the goal, but did well otherwise, saving us the points in the end. The way the game went, Stoke would have had chances to equalize and maybe would have done, even without the errors before half time. I guess move on to the next game.

We certainly need to be better defensively than that. We did get away with a point last night, no need panic but teams seem to be wising up to how we play. Or wising up to Giles not being a defender.

That's the first time that Giles has been caught out for a goal in ages.

He should have done better, but he's improved immensely since he came here.
