The 1st ashes test

Starts midnight tonight, that certainly slipped under the radar.
Can't see past a pasting for England
Another whitewash on the cards?
No Anderson, though I think he would struggle anyway

As ever a lot depends on Root.
Would have picked Bairstow ahead of Pope but I guess they see how they are performing in the nets.
I can see plenty of niggle in this series.
Only one point between them and us in the ICC rankings but home advantage is massive. And the toss.
Looking forward to it.

Usually make an effort to watch the Ashes but not having BT I think I won't lose any sleep over this series.🙂

5th test has been pulled from Perth which is good news for England as we always get tonked there. Love an ashes although this one is going to be odd not least England have had no warm up games to prepare.

They had a warm up game v lions but agree not great preparation.
5-0 Australia at 10/1 looks tempting

England have had a 1 man batting line up for a while. If the Aussie bowlers figure out Root, or if Root is out of form, we will probably get whitewashed.

Most the rest of of batters have one good innings in them, which is not enough. I have no idea what kind of shape or mindset Stokes is in after his time away from the game.

We will really miss Archer in the attack,.

The Aussies are in slight disarray with the recent happenings, but despite this and the fact that they are no longer allowed to use sandpaper, I reckon that they will win the series comfortably.

I have low expectations, but of course I hope that I am wrong.

BT sport presumably doesn’t have advertising unlike Sky (who have the rights here) so surely a plus?

As for Archer too much is made of him in my opinion. He came over here two years ago and was pretty much dealt with mercilessly and ended up looking like a trundler.

bit weird being on BT too. agree, feels like we'll get absolutely stuffed...... but u never know
I would normally be all over the Ashes series and excited to watch it but seem underwhelmed by it this series. I am a big believer they shouldn't have traveled to Australia and see how the Aussies like it when someone pulls out of a tournament late (Rugby League). Having Stokes back in the team will have a psychological impact on both teams but not sure what his performances will be like.

I've always hung on to Sky due to watching the Ashes but feel it is time to part company. I very rarely watch football on the tele and the films are just regurgitated month after month. We tend to watch more on Prime and Netflix.

I don’t think we willl miss Archer as much as many people make out. I recall how disappointing he was in those 2019 tour Tests.

Agree also about BT Sport. Quite like them - as for Sky Murdoch sold them in 2018 when he realised he couldn’t compete with the new major players. He still owns Sky in Australia and NZ and as such retains the rights over there.

God rid of Sky after the Carragher carryon, don't miss it a bit. Have BT as part of my Virgin package so a happy bunny. Looking forward to seeing the coverage of the Ashes series, and will miss a certain ex Yorkshire and Ashes winning captains insight into the game.

It's definitely slipped under the radar.

I only found out it was on BT last month. I couldn't believe it. Although it removes any temptation to get up at 0400 and watch a session before work (I've done that plenty in the past😂)

I remember a former missues waking up and saying 'what the f*ck are you doing?' as I'm sat watching it on sky go on my phone lol.

I guess with it not being on sky I've missed all the build up etc. You'd normally be getting wall to wall ashes debate and highlights of old tests etc.

I'm not overly confident. Unless we've somehow found an actual top order batting line up. We will be the usual 67-5. We never put on a 400 run plus score so our bowlers have anything to work with. You really have to feel for them over the last 2 years.

Well if it weans people off Sky it’s a good thing. They have dominated the TV subscription service for so long. As a VM customer BT Sport comes as a package. Think it hasn’t helped the build up that nobody is able to travel to watch the series and will be interesting to see the size of the BA made up of expat residents.

£25 for a month. One of payment and not locked in. Not a bad deal.
Oh never knew that, might give it whirl then. Couldn’t believe when I heard on the radio it starts tonight.
Ever the optimist I can us squeezing out a win and a draw, but 4 nil or 5 nil looks ominous

Oh - is it on BT Sport? I did not know. I should be able to watch some of it then.

They seem to like their balls being tampered with, one way or another.
