The 9am figures not disclosed yet?

As of 9am on 12 April, 4,373,343 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK.

Positive cases were 3,568.

13 deaths were reported today

149,968 deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate (up to 28 March)

32,190,576 have had a first dose vaccination. 69,223 first dose vaccinations yesterday. 7,656,205 have had a second dose. 189,665 second dose vaccinations today.

Today's headline analysis:

• 3,568 new cases reported in 24-hour period, up from yesterday's 1,730
• 7-day average for new cases increases by 4.4% to 2,743 per day, following 3.0% decrease yesterday (and following 16 consecutive daily decreases)
• 7-day average for new cases is 21.5% lower than one week ago (from 30.2% lower yesterday) and 47.8% lower than two weeks ago (from 50.9% lower yesterday and 36.3% lower 7 days ago)
• 13 new deaths within 28 days of a positive test reported in 24-hour period, up from 7 yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test decreases by 5.2% to 34 per day, following 1.2% decrease yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test is 3.6% lower than one week ago (from 2.9% higher yesterday) and 46.3% lower than two weeks ago (from 42.6% lower yesterday and 58.3% lower 7 days ago)

Significant increase in the number of daily tests reported yesterday, which may help explain the rise in 7-day average for new cases.

So progress against Government Phase 1 targets is as follows:-

Phase 1 - 1st dose

Target 32m by 15th April
Achieved 32.121m by 10th April ✅

Phase 1 - 2nd dose

Target 15m by 10th May
Achieved 7.466m by 10th April
Daily rate required to achieve 15m = 251k
Daily average of actual 2nd doses over the last 7 days = 297k
On target ✅
Apologies I should have made it clear that the 10th May target of 15m Phase 1 2nd doses refers to the top 4 priority groups only.

@bear66 could you put up the corresponding days total of cases and deaths from the week before when you do these daily updates please?
I think it will give people a good idea of progress been made in these vaccination stages.

The 7 day daily average of deaths seems that levelling out over the past 10 days.
Not sure why. Hospitalisations are still falling, though less rapidly.

Two reasons. Firstly, we are still working through the effects of the double bank holiday Easter weekend. This has meant that we haven't really been comparing like with like for the last 12 days.

Secondly, it's due to the much smaller numbers. Six weeks ago, a 3% reduction in the 7-day average for deaths would decrease the average by about 10 deaths. Now, a 3% reduction would equate to 1 fewer death in the average.

THe NHS are doing brilliantly with the vaccination programme. I genuinely thought that second doses would get delayed. Great job though.

I suspect Billy that cases will start to rise with the loosening of lockdown. I hope to god Johnson doesn't use that to delay releasing restrictions. It should be predicated on hospitalizations and serious cases of covid, not positive tests.

Agreed. Vaccinations are starting to break the link between cases and hospitalisations
