'The Wilder Effect'

I will be amazed if we make the play offs, but I'm not sure that was the expectation?
finishing 10th and then with some shrewd transfer activity.. I think it was on.

missed out on targets and had a bolt load of injuries. we can still manage it imo

Saying Warnock setting up similar to Wilder’s 3-5-2 therefore makes their footballing styles similar is only one up from saying ”Look…see……they both play with eleven men”!

Saying Wilder is suddenly going to change Sol Bamba and Lee Peltier into overlapping centre backs and were going to play a fresh new exciting brand of football is on par with Woodgate and his high pressing fast attaching football.. with Rudy Gestede.

It's naive to say anything but, same players same shape slightly different look at Warnock's Middlesbrough vs West Brom vs Wilder's Middlesbrough vs Millwall
near enough the same teams, near enough the same results.. exactly the same results.

I don't get to many games but that was the best football I've seen for some time at the Riverside. If he's made a difference already with that squad then things could be on the up.

Let’s not get too alarmed by the loss to PNE — for the most part the football was excellent— passing, movement was great but we just lacked the confidence maybe in front of goal.

After successful early dribbles our wing backs went into their shells a bit. When they had the full back isolated they didn't go for it as much as they had early on. They'll get there, they've been playing a very restricted negative game for a while, a new approach and players may start to flourish

What's different to the previous 4 seasons? Missing chances and failing to score sufficient goals has been the key issue for years. I feel sure that Woodgate, Pulis, Warwick and Co must have all realised this, and surely they all tried to fix it, but it's still the key issue.

So I guess you conclude that it's a hard problem and isn't going to be fixed any time soon.

Saying "all that was lacking is confidence in front of goal" is like saying all we need to do is convert water into wine.
