And didn't Bowie just cut up words and phrases, throw them in the air and see how they landed (like Life on Mars - ironically one of my fave songs!). Probably a myth

Some songs aren't really meant to make much sense and are deliberately daft or whimsical. To take the **** out of the lyrics in those instances is kind of missing the point (although still good fun, don't get me wrong).
