Mike Hind in rare PR opportunity shocker šŸ¤£
i dont really understand the negativity around a local businessman, who uses his own funds and time etc to do very worthwhile charitable activities across a range of excellent causes, then utilising the press and social media to both promote the fundraising (therefore generating more funds) and his own business - given he has to make money to enable him to use his financial resources for charity - no one is a bottomless pit of money. He walked to Windsor castle raising over Ā£26k for help for heroes - so his business was still running without his involvement, he organised and drove to Ukraine with valuable resources, again using his own time and resources and petrol and van etc so who recompenses him for using all of that? i dont blame him for then courting publicity for his businesses - a thriving business is what clearly enables him to do good. there are plenty of loaded individuals in tees valley who do absolutely nothing charitable with their earnings - im not saying they should, im just pointing out that this guy does, but at the same time he still needs to maintain and grow his own business to continue to faciliate that. all through lockdown i saw his many and varied acts of goodwill really help a lot of struggling teessiders

If you market yourself in the way that Mike Hind MBE does then you do have to accept that you are not going to be everybody's cup of Darjeeling, and that continual self promotion whilst pushing the political aims of others but claiming to be apolitical might annoy some folk.

Rightly or wrongly that's the nature of the beast and if you can't take that heat then perhaps you really shouldn't go into the social media kitchen.

I took The Lodgers comment as a dig at Hind's ubiquitous use of MBE rather than any real attack on Hind as an individual and people are entitled to their opinion, almost all of mine are garnered by flash judgements based on very little real evidence, Nick Knowles, for example really annoys me, but I don't know the bloke and in person he might be great company and my impression of him from interviews I've read might be down to a writers ground axe rather than anything based in reality.

I don't know the Lodger (Ian) beyond his posts on here but he comes across as a really decent bloke, and I don't know Mike Hind MBE beyond the bits I see in the news or on social media, and whilst it's commendable the good he has done for charity he does comes across as having a bit of a fragile ego which struggles with criticism but doesn't mind using that struggle to further his own brand, again in person he might be an absolute superstar and I might well be the one that's out of touch.

I share your feelings towards Nick Knowles. I better add that I have nothing personal against him (don't want any bad publicity if I become famous next week)... Just think he's a bit of a ding.

I agree re: Knowles - especially when he tried to become a singer, I also harbour similar irrational dislikes of Matt Allwright, Matt Baker and Anita Rani!

The thread was clearly a joke. I admit "waste of skin" was probably a bit of an ill-thought-out title, but other entries included...

Roy Keane's Psychiatrist.
The Characters (not the people) on Friends.
Buffalo Bill.
Miss Piggy.
Hitler.
Jabba The Hut.

The article is just another embarrassing "look at me".

Mr Hind needs to chill a bit and stop worrying what people think of him. It was a throwaway comments on a message board. Something that an individual can't control so don't worry about it.
The throw away comments have left him being confronted on a fun run, accused of srealing charity money etc etc.

Not great really

Are you sure that the original thread on here is the source of that behaviour towards him? I doubt it. Hind has courted publicity consistently so is a local celebrity. That alone makes him a target for some people.
