Thirteen lives

I watched it last night and although I knew the basic facts the storytelling was fantastic. It has to be one of the best films I have seen on a streaming platform .
If you enjoyed Apollo 13 ( also by Ron Howard) you will love this film.

Not seen it yet but Ritchie Cunningham is pretty consistent in terms of quality when it comes to directing movies. Enjoyed Rush too.

See his daughter is following in his footsteps now.

I’ve actually put off watching the film as the documentary of the story on Disney - The Rescue - is amazing and I can’t help but feel the film will just dramatise something that doesn’t need dramatising. The documentary account couldn’t be bettered by a film in my view.

You should give it a go, Rick Stanton ( one of the cave divers involved in the rescue) praised the film accuracy and the only thing he thought was inaccurate was the muddy waters ( which would have been pointless showing as it would mean no visibility of the under water shots)

Totally agree with this. The documentary is one of the most gripping films I've ever watched

On the advice of the OP I have just watched this tonight and can declare it excellent.
Brilliant acting and great storytelling, without any of the dramatic stuff.
Extra bonus with all the behind the scenes stuff afterwards a well.

I would recommend it.

Watched it on recommendation of the OP and thought it fantastic, partly because it didn’t go for all the over the top Hollywood dramatisation. Seemed fairly documentary like.

I’m now half way through the Disney doc and it is incredible too, better in fact. I think it's possible to watch them both without either of them taking anything away from the other.
Absolutely love how these guys (cave rescue team) who, once upon a time, were socially awkward, slightly misfitting, bullied teens, are some of the most special heroes on the planet now. And a large proportion of them are British. Makes me proud of our country and god knows we need stuff to be proud of at the minute!

Incredible story. I would say don’t read up much before watching either, as it’s the bits of the story that I’d not known/forgotten about, that are the most incredible parts. What those boys went through, and what those men were prepared to do to save them, just absolutely incredible,

It’s amazing however the actual documentary is on Amazon prime and believe me, it’s even better!!!

I kind of want to watch it, though remember the real event & TV news coverage, though that didn't go in the caves I still felt it presented the danger of events well... So just don't know if I can watch a film about it..

I have seen the Documentary and you are correct it is fantastic but not sure if it is better as it is a different method of storytelling. I enjoyed them them both and they compliment each other, I think both the drama and the documentary can also work in isolation without detracting from the other.

Great film on Amazon if anyone has it. About the rescue of the 13 boys trapped in the cave In Thailand and how they were rescued. Amazing story, and a gripping film, those divers are real heroes.

Excellent movie. The thing that shocked me was the total number of people involved in the rescue, over 5000. How the locals pulled together, along with divers, medics etc. to rescue the boys was truly inspirational 👍

A few things surprised me! The distances, the time taken, the amount of water.. claustrophobic viewing. The work of those divers was absolutely epic! and the manner in which they brought the kids out!! not sure what I thought was going to happen, but I remember Elon Musk sticking his nib in!

There is no way I would go near a cave or even sleep with the lights off if I was one of them kids.. or the coach. Kin’ell!!

I've some holiday time ahead.. I think I'll try & give both the film & doc a go... was the Apollo 13 ref that swung it, watched that again the other day long film though flew by.
