When Bruce Rioch gave Owen the No12 shirt, he had worn the No12 shirt earlier in the season when Boro travelled to Halifax for a 2nd round, 2nd leg cup tie

Boro can count themselves unlucky to not get anything out of the game, though as often was the case that season we were struggling withPallister gone & now Mogga is out of the team, along with Trevor Putney & Davenport missing we had a sort of weaker team, with Paul Kerr, after a lengthy injury, starting only his 2nd game of the season

1989-90 was a stop, start season, wembley apart, which seen us nose dive after the new year, as the mighty Boro headed towards the relegation trap door

We had started new year with a traditional NYD defeat, at home to bottom club Stoke, beat Sunderland 3-0 the following week & now Sheffield United who were riding high in the 2nd divison

In the 2nd half manager Bruce brought on Owen McGee for Mark Brennan & was almost responsible for Bernie, or kernaghan, to force home an equaliser, he played in a great ball, but neither took up the opportunity & the chance was gone

Gary Parkinson
Colin Cooper
Nicky Mohan
Simon Coleman
Stuart Ripley

There are few posters who would start a thread to commemorate the 31 year anniversary of Owen McGee's league debut. :ROFLMAO:

I do appreciate it though, its nice to have some football threads. (y) This era was the team I fell in love with (as unremarkable as they were).

Being worth a million pound would be deemed an insult nowadays let alone fat and round
I remember buying Simon Coleman’s house off him in Yarm and it was just an ordinary purchase of an ordinary house . Try to buy a footy players house now and you’d be met at their estate gate and escorted through by the butler .

"He's fat, he's round, he's worth a million pound, Owen McGee, Owen McGee".

A classic terrace chant. You don't here these anymore😂
that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw his name on the thread title.

oh thanks for the memories of that :D :D :D

Enjoyed reading that,
Owen was a year above me at Park End school and he was known as a good footballer at the time. Didn't really know him personally but he seemed like a good lad.
