Thoughts on our chances next season

The two teams promoted automatically will almost certainly be the top scorers and it's pretty likely the play off winners will be third highest scorers.

That's how the championship works so it's up to Wilder to find three good strikers. If he doesn't then it's another season that will end in disappointment.

Failing to score is what kills Boro's chances of promotion.

think Sunderland will do well next year have a decent manager now and have the momentum of promotion like it or not they are a big club in the championship and you would imagine they would have decent resources to improve the squad next season. Think we will make the play offs at least but really need to sign a very good striker and keeper

Agree you definitely need a decent scoring striker, it's possible to do it with the whole team chipping in but I don't think it's anywhere near as easy and I think having one of the top scorers creates more buzz than everyone getting 5 goals.

It's hard though as it's not as easy as just getting someone who knows how to score, you need the full link up to be working well and in the past I don't think we've had all the missing pieces, we've just bought the likes of Rhodes and Assombalonga and hoped for the best.

I'd rather be playing Burnley then Everton or Leeds tbh, so I think that's helped our chances but it's impossible to gauge because it depends on not only who we buy/sell/let go but who everyone else buys/sells/let's go and who we buy is dependant on prices we get and what the market is like etc so early days, but let's see what we get.

Anything less than top 6 would be a massive disappointment. We were 2 wins off the play offs this last campaign and there were plenty of matches, and chances, to get those extra points.

We need to score more goals for sure, we need a 20 goal a season striker and another striker who will get double figures. If we get them then I think we will manage it. Looks like we will have some money to spend, hope we spend it wisely.

Burnley look a basket case at the moment, no manager, money problems, right now I think they might struggle to adapt. Norwich squad is worse than the last time they were in the championship, Watford look the best best for an quick return.

If Forest go up then will the Huddersfield manager get poached by a bigger club? Burnley perhaps or West Brom or even Sheff Utd? Plus they will lose players - Toffolo and Sarr are free agents this summer.

Title chasing:
#Nottm Forest - if they don't go up they'll be fighting for the title as they have a very good side.
Watford - parachute payments, pace and power
Sheff Utd - parachute payments will reduce, but not enough for a fire sale, they'll be strong, but can they keep Berge and will they get Sharp on the pitch enough?

Play offs chasers:
#Huddersfield - decent side, but will lose their parachute payments and down size. Will probably lose their star midfielder and LB too
Norwich - might have a relegation hangover, needs an overhaul as a club, only 4 or so left from last promotion first team. Can they keep Puuki?
Boro - steady side, need more consistency at either end of the pitch to push on
Wigan - will kick on after an excellent season
West Brom - should kick on, couldn't finish their chances last year but could push forward with a new CF

Midtable:
Luton - missed their big chance last year, will be hard to reproduce that
Burnley - transition season, parachute money eaten up by debt repayments
Sunderland - will invest and secure their place
Blackburn - seem to be in crisis a little, who willmanage them, which players will they have to sell
Millwall - steady season of 1-0 wins and 1-0 defeats
QPR - spent big on wages last year, will have to sell to keep above the financial barriers
Coventry - could push for a play off spot if they can tighten up at the back and get some midfield goals
Stoke - overpaid squad of mediocre players
Swansea - got an identity and way of playing, but not got the squad to really land with it
Blackpool - steady again
Hull - will invest ad might be top half

Relegation fighting:
Preston - sliding
Bristol - financial issues will mean they sell their better players
Reading - if they lose Joao then they're done for
Cardiff - poor squad
Rotherham - top league one side, poor championship side
Birmingham - relegation beckons

This is largely with the current squads, and a few known/expected departures. What we don't know is investment. To jump up or down from these zones.

Playoffs for me. Perhaps controversially I think Alex Neil may get Sunderland sniffing about there too.

If Forest win the Play Off final I can see next seasons top six being:

Huddersfield
Swansea
Norwich
Middlesbrough
Sheffield United
Watford
------------------------------
West Brom
Burnley
Millwall
Luton
Sunderland

Everyone is predicting a weak Championship next season. I think it looks quite daunting.
i dont think thats daunting at all for me there are not standout teams, sheff utd are very good but without morgan gibs-white they are weaker.

I think the teams coming down from the Premier League are not as good as the teams that are going up, also the teams from league one are far better than the ones going down. It will be a much tighter league imo

Reading would have been down if it was not for Derby County's points deduction, Burnley look primed for a terminal decline and I think Blackburn will suffer through the loss of Tony Mowbray. Sunderland will do themselves proud, no worries for relegation I wouldn't have thought, Wigan will be ok

I think we'll be looking for a top two finish, hopefully if we get our transfer window right - I expect Norwich and Watford to Challenge. Sheffield will be in the mix and one from Huddersfield or Forrest. Preston, Blackpool and maybe even Sunderland could be dark horses for the playoffs. Reading, Rotherham and Birmingham would be my favourites for the drop.

On paper it looks very open for me - Burnley look in bother and certainly wont find it easy. Watford, who knows what they will produce and Norwich obviously come with the reputation of going up but surely this yo-yo phase has to end. If Forest lose the Play Offs they will be a threat, not certain Huddersfield would do as well.

I think we have a better chance than this season. Add goals to this team and we will make the play offs.

I fancy Swansea to have a good season

Forest
Swansea
------------------------
QPR
Middlesbrough
Norwich
West Brom
------------------------

Then a group of teams the threaten - Huddersfield, Watford, Sunderland, Stoke, Birmingham

I believe Sheff Utd, Blackburn will struggle and Luton will get relegated.

I'm going out on a limb..

Reading

Up from League One:
MK Dons
Wycombe
Sheff Wed

Relegated from the Premier League
Leeds
Forrest

Lots to happen between now and the start of the season to change opinions. If as I suspect we get around £30 to £35m in from the sale of Spence, Tav and Fry it will all be about how much Wilder is given of that to invest and who he gets in. The January window wasn’t the best last season but with some good Championship level pro replacements at centre back back, midfield and up front and some better quality loans, Wilder will have nowhere to hide and I tip him to get us up next season.

I don't expect us to push for automatic, just hoping we can compete and be around the top 6. Who knows, CW knows the league and we may have 15m+ to spend so could do decent business but there'll be 15 clubs at least who all will be saying the same thing and hoping to get in the play offs.

I think we'll be in the play offs though, maybe pushing for 2nd but not quite enough.

Norwich and Watford replace Bournemouth and Fulham (but not as strong) Swansea, WBA, Boro, Stoke will be stronger. Sunderland, Blackburn, QPR etc it'll be the most open for years - but don't people say that every year?!

Very early days but I expect us to do better than last season.

A few reasons:

Wilder/Scott combination from the beginning of the season - we lost some early points that we should have not, with too small a squad and strange summer transfer policy.

Have a bit more finance available if Spence is sold to a Premier Club and Derby payment.

Less likely to be distracted by the Cup.

What is Wilder's PPG?

Multiply that by a season of games and add on 12/14 points for competent forwards and the removal of Lumley, see where we end up.

I agree we could make up 12 points by having top quality forward and keeper added.

Better keeper possibe but not guaranteed. Randolph would be an improvement if WHU were willing to loan him.

Better CF - hardest position to fill by a long way.
