Throwing bricks at the coaches

I thought this type of thuggery had been consigned to history. There was a lot of scuffles with Sheff Utd a few year back walking through car park E near away end. A few Sheffield thugs were kicking cars and trying to bring down the fence.

Yep we had the stoning treatment there in the 80s. Gary Rowell was on the score sheet for us that day i think unless I’ve got that completely wrong

Man City was always the place for this. For some reason it was always mid winter.
And bottles of urine thrown over the fence separating us in the Kippax. Also, if I recall, the only place you could get a pint n the ground before the match??

Maine road was always one of the worse grounds of to visit, especially pre segregation.
I can remember getting in the Kippax about 1 hour before kick off. At the top of the stairs was a man mountain knocking people back down. A young Boro lad about 16 clattered him with something maybe a brick. All hell broke loose.

We stood by a fence all game surrounded by boot boys in black crombies.

Not a nice day, into an Irish club around the corner after the game, more chew, and then the bus had most windows missing.

A second time i went we walked in the Kippax, around the pitch into seats. Getting out again was a nightmare.

Sounds about par for the course back then.

Remember one of our cup games at Maine Road. I was there with a couple of mates outside the ground before the turnstiles opened. Then 10-12 City fans turned up and started with the verbals looking for chew.

Suddenly a big group came into view- and the chant went up - We are the Middlesbrough Boys- they were on their toes sharpish!!

I seem to recall outside the ground was rough ground - with a missile supply plentiful!!

remember trying to get parked in a housing estate , moss side, very near maine road and a chavy bloke saying your car will be fine here, I will keep an eye on it .... never took him up on his offer

Getting back to the present day and this week - are there any more details about this bricking? The coaches were parked up very close to the away end after the match weren't they? I wondered whether it happened when parked or moving away and any other details really.

Had a similar experience. Parked my brand new company car in Moss-Side. Copper said ‘I wouldn’t leave that there’ and walked off. Helpful. Some kid volunteered to look after it for a small perquisite. Came back to find all in order. And we won 0-1, think it was a Gary Flitcroft own goal??

It was quite a distance from the ground, after the match. We'd probably been crawling along in traffic for about 15 or 20 minutes. It broke the outer pane of a double glazed window. Apparently if it had broken both then we'd have had to get out and wait for a replacement bus.

Thanks for this. Awful thing to experience.
