Time Wasting & the dark arts

Watched **** v Geordies , the game was a model of players trying to get opponents booked or sent off, constantly going down to waste time all over the place , at one point a guy went down & grabbed 3 parts of his body to get the game stopped .....face is the winner every time .
The World cup added loads of time for all this stuff , but here we seem to be letting them get away with it .......if Newcastle conceded in the 15 mins that should of been added it may hammer home the message .
First half tonight Palace Spudz , not dissimilar stuff going on , the dark side of the games always been there , but seems to be getting out of control now where refds etc seem oblivious to it .....are they so naive?

as i have been saying for quite a while - its time for a time judge to be introduced (like in rugby league)

the rules say 90 minutes - the advertising says 90 minutes - fans pay top dollar for tickets and it should be 90 minutes.

players can roll around all they want, time can be wasted all they want, throw ins can be prepared and shadowed all they want, but unless the ball is in play the clock aint ticking - refs just need to ref - time needs to be controlled from the stands..

Adding time will stop it almost instantly, I knew as soon as the PL said they wouldn’t be adopting the same stance FIFA took at the World Cup that it would be as bad as ever. I really don’t see what the issue is with adding the correct amount time on at the end of games, 5 minutes last night for the Arsenal game was a joke and just encourages teams to adopt the same tactics that Newcastle did.

I thought one of the best things that the World Cup did was the true extra time. Stopped time wasting immediately. Don't know why we aren't doing it in the Premier League?

Longer games means less available slots in the tv schedule to squeeze in lucrative ad breaks.

Smith did it at Birmingham when they were getting on top after their goal. Slowed it down and reduced the atmosphere. I was glad he did it.

One thing about the sh*thousery at Selhurst Park tonight: Romero went down holding his face after a coming together with Ayew, but the replays showed Ayew didn’t make any contact with his face. Presumably the VAR checked it to see if Ayew had elbowed him? In which case they would’ve seen that Romero was clearly cheating. Why wasn’t he booked for it?

Last night’s game at Arsenal was borderline farcical. As said above, the only way to stop it is to make sure the clock is stopped each time there’s a break. It’s definitely getting worse. And one thing that makes it worse is the reams of pundits, journalists and commentators on TV, radio and in print and social media who openly endorse it and encourage it. It’s become completely normalised now.

I know it’s always been around here and there but now it’s absolutely rife to the point where there’s games that have become a series of breaks and stoppages occasionally interrupted by increasingly short passages of football.

I have no problem with this at present (as it's allowed to happen) and can give you an edge in a match.

Easiest way to resolve is just to add time on I think?

This time wasting or "game management" (if it's your team doing it) is like diving: it won't go away until fans condemn their own clubs for doing it.

This won't happen because fans will, probably accurately, say "but everyone else will do it to us", and they don't really care enough about the principle to take this hit.

One thing I liked about the World Cup was the increased length of added time due to all this time wasting.

It was actually refreshing to see 10/9/8 mins be added etc.

Players and teams are getting away with murder.

I don't think a yellow card for diving/cheating is enough neither.

A yellow card barely does anything. You still get to continue playing the game and you can still play the following week.

There needs to be stronger action taken on cheating, otherwise it'll just continue getting worse and worse.

I don't think it's up to the fans, it's the governing bodies.

Until they get a grip on this stuff it'll keep on happening. One club taking a stance won't make a difference and clubs won't do it anyway. As you say I don't think many will think the moral high ground is worth it while your rivals are busy winning trophies etc.

Problem is the people running the game are generally pretty spineless. As long as they money keeps flowing sporting integrity doesn't really matter.

Grabbing the face, should be deemed head injury which requires minimum 1-2mins off the pitch with a doctor.

Its when the refs stop the play for someone who clutches their arm, knee, leg or whatever and when the other side dare question why the game as been stopped the ref just gives a look as if to say 'away, he's hurt bless him, lets make sure hes ok' - its a massive con, if your actions for requiring treatment, no matter how small or trivial the injury, you should be taken off the field and there should be a minimum time taken to complete medical checks with a doctor, thats how the FA could word it. If you clutch your face because someones fingertips brushed your face lets get a doctor to check you out because you obviously felt such pain at the time to drop to the floor, roll around clutching your face lets not let the emotions of the game, adrenaline etc hide any injury you may have suffered so yeah clutch your face/head and you go off.

JT did an interview before when Mourinho told him that if 2 players go down holding their face they would tell the ref the rule said you cant usher both of them off - total lies and they just got away with it. Its cheating, its as bad as a blatant hand ball or snapping someone whose through on goal, cheating is cheating.

Added time is a joke too, the WC was excellent, most games i watch should have minimum 8-10mins added time, and then it keeps been added on in injury time when the darks arts are even more at play. I dont think id want a judge or a game clock, but just want referees to stop their watch - ffs they wear 2, you'd think one had the right time!

I think most of footballs issues can be managed better. The decisions have been taken not to.

It only takes a few yellows/ reds. Sin bin is a great resource for professional fouls/ time wasting.

It is an advantage to cheat the system until the system changes to prevent it. Time wasting in the world cup is a good simple example.

I think foul and abusive language/ dissent could be stamped out within weeks if the refs were given FA backing.

Agreed, the proper time added on in the World Cup seemed to make a bit difference. I’d like to see retrospective cards too where there is clear evidence.

The world cup just proved what we all knew anyway that refs don't add on the correct time at all and that it's just a joke.

When they point to their watch in response to players complaining about the opposition time wasting as if to say "don't worry, I'm adding it on" it's basically just BS.

The refs or whoever oversees them are just as culpable as anyone else for it. They don't clamp down on it and they don't enforce it.

In fact they effectively encourage it because every coach and player knows refs will hardly do anything about it so it's worth doing. (I assume, in their defence, they're probably told not to. Not that anyone would ever admit to it).
