Fans 'so important' as Dragons aim for huge Spurs tie

Nearly 5,000 fans will follow the Reds to Bramall Lane as they face Sheffield United in an FA Cup fourth round replay

Wrexham AFC go into their FA Cup fourth round replay against Sheffield United (Tuesday, 7.45pm kick off) knowing that a win will see them host Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur in the next round. The Dragons will go into the game as huge underdogs but knowing that they are unbeaten in two matches against Championship opponents this season.

The Dragons had to dig deep to beat National League rivals Altrincham on Saturday after the home side levelled late on. Wrexham eventually won the game thanks to a late winner from new signing Eoghan O'Connell.

Speaking to North Wales Live, manager Phil Parkinson hinted at some changes from Saturday's side as the Dragons continue their packed February schedule in which they will play eight times during the month. The Reds boss also spoke about the importance of the club's supporters, with nearly 5,000 making the midweek trip to South Yorkshire.

"We're going to be utilising the squad to its maximum over the next month and we'll be looking for some fresh legs in there, that's really important", said Parkinson. "We've got nothing to lose and we'll be looking to utilise the passion of the supporters.

"The fans are so important to us and I'm looking forward to the game and seeing our fantastic following get behind us." The Reds boss spoke about the character of his side after what he called a "disjointed" first-half performance.

The Dragons boss revealed he was much happier with the second half and was delighted to secure the three points. He said: "I felt in the second half we looked really good at times - we were a bit disjointed in the first half.

"I think personality is so important in a football team. We have got that character to keep driving on and respond as well - sometimes we have to accept we haven't done as well as we should and be man enough to take criticism and respond to conceding a goal and go again.

"All of the lads are in great spirits going into the Sheffield United game. We've trained really well and we're going there to give a good account of ourselves and see where that takes us."

Burnley V Ipswich

KIERAN | IT WILL BE A REAL TEST

Large

"They are consistent with their approach to matches but they are also flexible in their setup"

Kieran McKenna says he is expecting Burnley to provide an even tougher challenge in this evening's Emirates FA Cup fourth round replay than they did at Portman Road, when the Blues drew 0-0 with the Clarets.

Town take on Vincent Kompany's side at Turf Moor, with the Lancashire outfit flying high in the Championship having picked up 65 points from 29 games and occupying pole position in the league table.

Burnley are also unbeaten at home this season.

"We're looking forward to the game and it will be a real test," Kieran told iFollow Ipswich.

"We have players available and competing for positions and we want to keep the squad fresh. A lot has to be considered this evening and we want to pick a team that will be suitable for the challenge.

"I think there are things we can take from the previous game, especially with how we showed our identity and how we were both on and off the ball.

"But tonight will be an even bigger challenge. We have to find belief and show what we can do, but also respect them because if we're not at our best things will be very tough.

"They are consistent with their approach to matches but they are also flexible in their setup. We'll look to play to our strengths, even though we're away from home and against a very good team.

"We can take confidence from the performance at Portman Road, and tonight is a challenge we will take head on."

Fleetwood Town V Sheffield Wednesday

Fleetwood Town are set to host Sheffield Wednesday for the fourth time this season on Tuesday night, in the Fourth Round replay of the Emirates FA Cup, and we have all the information you need ahead of the clash

Kick-off: 7:45pm
Venue: Highbury Stadium

FLEETWOOD TOWN
It hasn’t been a great start to the new year in terms of the league for Fleetwood. No win now since New Year’s Day and that run extended last Saturday after a last-minute loss to Burton Albion. However, Fleetwood have had a good run in the FA Cup so far, having beat Ebbsfleet, Oxford City and Queens Park Rangers respectively, while also picking up a draw with the Owls which takes the Cods to Tuesday night’s replay.

Scott Brown was able to field all three of the late January transfer window signings. Corrie Nbada started in the heart of defence while both Jack Marriott and Jayden Stockley led the line.

In the 3-2 loss at the hands of Burton, Stockley did get on the scoresheet after a nice move from the Fleetwood attack, but it wasn’t the best outing for the team with the game being snatched from them by Stockley’s former Charlton teammate, Charlie Kirk in the dying seconds.

The man with the heroics at Hillsborough last time out though, Promise Omochere was on hand to continue his great scoring record with a goal in Saturday’s game so Fleetwood will have the advantage of having him in the squad for this midweek tie.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
Tuesday’s visitors on the other hand, Sheffield Wednesday have been seeing a contrasting vein of form to Town. The Owls haven’t suffered a league defeat since they faced Plymouth back in October but beat Argyle in the return fixture last time out to go top of League One.

]It was only Fleetwood who halted Wednesday’s run of six straight wins when the two teams drew in the Cup game at the end of January. It was just a 1-0 victory over Plymouth for Wednesday last weekend, but the goal was scored early, and Darren Moore’s men played their effective style of football that guided them towards the win which has since made many people label them as the best team in the league.

For this Fourth Round replay, a trip to either Ipswich or Burnley is on the cards and the South Yorkshire-based side will be doing all they can to keep Highbury quiet on Tuesday.

Grimsby Town v Luton Town
1675794117352.png

We return to Blundell Park tonight for our Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Luton Town with a tie away to Premier League side Southampton the reward for the victor.

A superb showing from the Mariners at the Kenilworth Road home of the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off chasers saw goals from Gavan Holohan and Harry Clifton earn a 2-2 draw to bring Luton to Cleethorpes.

Paul Hurst’s men backed up that promising performance with a comprehensive 3-0 Sky Bet League Two victory over Crewe on Saturday and his team will certainly come into tonight’s match full of confidence.

Team News

Loanees George Lloyd and Tom Dickson-Peters, along with fellow Deadline Day signing Josh Emmanuel, will be unavailable for selection due to not being registered for the initial match between the two sides.

In addition to that, Mikey O’Neill and John McAtee are also ruled out due to the former being cup-tied and the latter being unable to play against his parent club.

The absence of the above forward options mean Danilo Orsi is likely to return to the starting XI after being an unused substitute against Crewe.

Left back Danny Amos, impressive on Saturday, is available for the replay after serving his one-match suspension following his red card at Swindon against Luton in the initial match.

Luton Town

The Kenilworth Road club currently find themselves in a lofty fourth spot in the Championship with a Play-Off berth a very real proposition come the end of the season.

Tonight’s visitors arrive at Blundell Park in fine form with the draw ten days ago the only match they have failed to win in the last five in all competitions.

Luton boast a clutch of potent weapons up front. Carlton Morris, their top scorer this season with eleven goals, came off the bench in the first match and could feature from the start. Elijah Adebayo, the scorer of the Hatters’ penalty in the 2-2 draw, finds himself in great form with five goals and an assist in their last six matches.

Alfie Doughty was one of Luton’s stand out players in the first match, alongside goalscorer Jordan Clark who was also named Man of the Match.

Previous Meetings

Prior to the initial match, the Mariners’ last two matches against the Hatters – both in the 2017-18 League Two season – saw the Bedfordshire club complete the league double.

Our last victory against tonight’s visitors came in September 2016 when an Omar Bogle double sealed a 2-1 League Two win at Kenilworth Road.

The last time we hosted Luton in the FA Cup, we beat them 7-1 in the Third Round of the 1995/96 campaign with the strikeforce of Jamie Forrester and Steve Livingstone scoring two goals each.

I hope Wrexham get absolutely slaughtered. Need dragging down a peg or two. Recently moaning that the council aren't going to part fund a new stand for them even though they are owned by multi millionaires and have a multi million dollar company as a shirt sponsor in non league football.

I hope Sheff United v Wrexham goes to extra time and penalties to be honest, with Sheffield United winning. A late abandonment with the scores level necessitating a further game would be nice, but probably unrealistic.
Late abandonment eh? What have you got planned, Capy?

Thanks Roofie your continuing stellar efforts towards prepping all this material for us is most appreciatedđź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź

I want Harry Clifton to score the winner for the Mariners. Hes a local lad and never been further than Grantham Town on loan. There`s a sub [Mariner] called "Battersby" so I reckon he could do a job (y)

Grimsby are my second team (I grew up just down the road). Really hoping they can hang on. Dent Luton's confidence a bit.
