Tory MP defects to Labour

Yes starmer and his pals have just stolen billions of pounds from the public purse, totally disobeyed the covid rules to extreme and cocked up brexit.

Totally the same.
I expect that from The Tories mate. And so do most of the people who vote for them. I hold Labour up to higher standards than that. Call me old fashioned but I'd prefer to have a proper Labour leader rather than a Tory-lite, untrustworthy, scumbag who is in the wrong party like Starmer in charge.

What a total muppet.

Stay with tories, send a letter of no confidence to the 1922 Committee, vote in Liz Truss/Michael Gove as new leader, then leave & join the Labour party.

I'm just left mate. Starmer isn't.

Whatever you believe Starmer's position on the political spectrum is relative to yours aside, the one thing he is not even close too, is Boris Johnson or any of the other ERG lot and has not committed the blatant corruption or incompetence they have.

Exaggerating Starmer's political stance does your argument no favour's and comes across as just bitter.

This.

You are dong the work of a Tory Shill, if that's your bag fair play, if not, it is time to realise that Corbyn and any left leaning policies have little chance of winning a GE they are simply not popular enough amongst the electorate. As much as I agreed with most of what Corbyn said and stood for, he was unelectable in 2019 and it was not just the nefarious activities of Labour "centrists" he was simply not up to it. He fkked it up. Give him a crowd of like minded people and address them from a pyramid stage and they will love him but he was never able to convince sceptical floating voters to trust him. Time to move on?

In less than six weeks Johnson has lost two MPs from his 80 seat majority, is being openly asked to resign in the house of commons by former colleagues and is out of answers. Hope he stays on for another year.

Also, despite Wakeford being one of those weasels who is always looking for a way to save himself first, he's never going to be able to vote for measures that target the poor for the rest of this parliament.
Yet still Corbyn supporters try and turn every thread into a debate about Starmer

Just one point to make. According to every poll I've seen for at least the last 5 years, some left leaning policies have a lot more than just a little chance of winning an election and are extremely popular, even amongst Tory voters, especially so called red wall voters. Namely, renationalising rail and energy companies and Royal Mail. I think calls to do that to the energy companies will prove to be even more popular by the end of the year.

Don't go talking sense on here mate. They'll crucify you for it.

Hi Bumface-
Some of the policies that Starmer has mentioned are-
An affordable housing policy where people can actually afford to rent their homes
The employment rights green paper – including sick pay from day one, flexible working and getting rid of fire-and-rehire, delivering secure, high-skilled, high-paid jobs in the areas that need them,
Take the tax advantage available for public schools and put it into our state schools.
Public services should be in public hands not necessarily nationalisation but definately on the lines of co-ops and mutuals.

I get that you don't like Starmer but these surely must be policies that you could relate to?

And a hello to you too fella. Not spoken to you for a while. Hope that all is well. Of course I'd agree with most of that. The trouble is that I don't trust the bloke to do what he says. He lied to get elected and, he ditched the ten pledges that got him elected so why should I believe him now?

You are of course right Bumface. But a lying Starmer is better than any Tory. Tories only do things TO us and never FOR us.

I have done hustings and debates with Christian. He is far from being progressive or “left” on a lot of things so it’s interesting. He must have had his head turned by Westminster and is now desperate to stay. I feel sorry for Lucy Burke who missed out last time. She was very good.

On the rules the Labour leadership can ok membership without CLP approval. The rule exists in the other parties too to prevent local groups preventing crossing the floor.

I have no doubt at all that it was anything other then self preservation.
He had a tiny majority and could see the writing on the wall at the next election.
Be funny if Labour dropped him for someone else!

Seems like there ought to be a bi election to me. (Clearly Labour would win, but it feels like it's undemocratic for him to just switch)?

I think I heard on one of todays news reports that local labour activists were hoping Lucy Burke (I think that's her name), would be reselected to fight the seat. Just seen her name mentioned above so I'm glad my memory is still holding up, just.
