Tory new plan for regional pay deals

So much for levelling up eh.

Announced this morning

Tory leadership: Truss backtracks on public worker pay plan after backlash https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62390016

Looks like the back track has begun though
I think it's fairly clear that the only issue here is that she's said it out loud.

They're all clearly looking for a fight with the public sector and it's just how they bring wages down that will separate them.

Let's be honest, she'd say anything just for attention without worrying about the detail.
John Oliver at the weekend played the 'Pork markets' clip and likened her to a schoolkid who'd done her line in the school play and was now looking to her parents for approval.
She's Johnson's heir apparent doing a Thatcher tribute act.

The people behind this proposal - just don't understand do they - if we had a bit more equal country demand and supply for the whole country would be in better equilibrium. The extra pressures on supply in the South East is partly because people have moved there for work. The extra cost of accommodation is because too little new housing is being built in the South East.

I think regional pay increases for isolated locations would be an interesting proposal. A lot of rural areas have significant under staffing in the NHS for example and little in the way of pull to bring in a workforce.

Send additional resource to the poorer areas/ rural which may aid levelling up and recruitment/ retention.

The proposal is the opposite - lower pay for rural areas/left behind towns outside the S/E to save £8bn.

Its not Tory Policy its Truss Policy or was.

Amused, in a darkly comic way, that her father is a principled socialist of long standing and does not speak to or of his daughter such is his attitude to her politics. Remember she initially emerged as a Liberal, became and campaigned as a Conservative "Remainer" and is now a champion of whatever "Brexit" currently seems to be. Is she really as thick as she appears or is she more dangerous than she seems?

Summary, we're fkked.

Even if there was a problem with regional pay then the answer would be to give more money to places where cost of living is high, not reduce the pay where cost of living is low.

Another brain-dead idea.

The way they bang on about public sector pay you'd think they'd be fighting applicants off with a stick but it's the complete opposite. Everywhere is struggling because the money isn't good enough for the jobs. Reducing pay is only going to make things worse.

My fear is that after 2 years of truss killing the country and starmer doing nothing for fear of upsetting the blue rinse Tories whose votes he is wooing, the Tories will stab truss in the back and Boris will be welcomed back in to win an election.
It'll be kind of remember the good old days when we didn't have giant death robots, we just had that funny chap bumbling about.

It won’t be increased pay for anyone it will be less pay for some.
