I do actually have a LITTLE bit of sympathy for some of these inbred brainwashed idiotic Trump supporters. I realise that what they did was totally undemocratic. However they believe Trump, and he kept telling them that the election was rigged, despite zero evidence. From what I've heard, channels like Fox News hardly help either.

Trump will probably be cracking on with a luxury lifestyle in future, whereas some of his supporters could be languishing in prisons for years to come, due to his incitement.

They've been played like pawns... albeit very stupid ones!

Personally I don't think pardons have any place in a democracy, of there has been a miscarriage of justice there are legal means to redress that, presidential pardons are always open to support corruption

Actually, I think there is a very strong argument for pardons in a democracy, particularly when a crime has been committed, but over the passage of time we would now feel that either the ‘crime’ or the punishment was wrong.

For example, Derek Bentley, Alan Turing and those soldiers who were executed for desertion in WW1 had all committed ‘crimes’, which no appeal would likely overturn. However, years later we view these things completely differently and it was entirely right that they were issued pardons.

In America, hundreds of mainly black men have been imprisoned for years for relatively minor drug offences, under their draconian legislation. They have not been wrongly convicted however, so their only realistic hope would be for clemency or a full pardon.

The problem is not with pardons, the problem is with the man issuing them at the moment.
