Trump Impeached

Hundreds of military in their government building and thousands more in the city around it.
It is a failed state now.
It has been a failed state for some time and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. The psyche of many of those who live in a parallel world of movies see the state as a bad guy.

No chance I am afraid. The fire is out of control unless they start to throw these people in jail with long sentences. That may bring them a piece of reality. Until then we will see this continuing.
I’m really worried about America, a substantial proportion of the population just appear to be detached from reality I don’t see away of the country’s problems being easily reconciled. I see some rogue individuals seeking “revenge“ on Trumps enemies.

I think the US has always had a certain number of people who have been waiting for just this moment, invasion by Communists etc, and have the bunkers in the hills mentality.
They are not going to go away, or be pursuaded to think otherwise, but they have been emboldened by the current Presidential regime, and I'm sure that their numbers have grown. They can also come out of whatever 'cult' shadow they have been hiding in and come out into the open.
I think it was mentioned on a thread a while back now that somebody was chatting to a guy in Florida/ had family there, and they totally believed that they would be invaded by Communists, which is why they had guns etc to defend themselves when the time came. They totally expect to be fighting in the streets.

What’s the point? He’s gone in 7 days anyway? Are they worried what he might declassify in the next week?

The fall from grace isn’t a fall it’s a plummet.

All those guns in the Capitol, if armed protestors/rioters do turn up it could go very bad and very quick 🙈

I think that it would bar him from ever again running for public office.

You'd presume that a silently hopeful group of Republicans would be happy for that to return to typical ways of doing things, surely.

1. It would prevent him Holding office ever again, which is important.
2. You can’t just ignore what happened for diary reasons.
3. And this isn’t a credible reason, but it does give the Republicans a way of purging themselves of him, which many of them finally realise they need to do.

I've been saying since the insurrection/attempted coup last week that it's odds-on some pro-Trump nutcase will take a pot shot at Biden next week. Surely it's a racing certainty?

It must be causing some serious problems for the Secret Service with a public event like that. Even without last week there must have been a large chance of confrontation during the inauguration ceremony after the acrimony it has caused.

Just had this posted on a news website here re the impeachment and possible fall out:

What actually happens if US President Donald Trump is impeached and removed from office?

A tweet circulated this week claiming Trump will lose a range of benefits – his presidential pension, travel allowance, Secret Service detail, and ability to run for office again – if he is impeached. That isn’t entirely accurate. Here’s what will happen if Trump gets impeached.

Post-presidency pension

If Trump is only impeached by the House and not charged and removed from office by the Senate, he will still receive his pension.

If the Senate votes to convict him and remove him from office, he will lose it.

Secret Service detail

There isn’t a clear and concise rule on whether the lifetime Secret Service detail will remain for a former president who has been removed from office.

Whether Trump will lose this privilege if he is removed remains up in the air.

Returning to the White House

A ban on Trump running for office again doesn’t happen automatically if he is impeached, found guilty and removed. It requires an additional vote in the Senate.
It needs the majority of senators to approve the ban. However, the water is a little murky as the Constitution doesn’t specifically address the disqualification of a president. Rather it talks about disqualifying someone from “any office of honour, trust or profit”.

If this happens, it would be another first for the US as no president has ever been disqualified.

Travel allowance

There are rumours that former presidents receive a US$1 million travel allowance when they leave office. This is incorrect, according to ABC7.

Those who receive the lifetime Secret Service detail do not have access to an additional travel kitty.
