Ugo Ehiogu Memorial

Following discussions with the Official supporters forum, it appears there may be some traction with creating a memorial to big Ugo.

This thread is to brainstorm ideas and suggestions of how best to commemorate him.

The initial suggestion was for a painted mural to be created either in and around the stadium. Somewhere public that would be a permanent reminder.

I had something like the following style in mind…however I have no idea about what picture to replicate etc so that’s open to discussion as well.

As a starter for 10, I’ve suggested the following locations…

Please feel free to make your suggestions for how you think we could best leave a lasting tribute to someone that died so young and gave us all some fantastic memories.

I'd say a mural painted on the stadium would be best.

Re the first photo, there's a burger van which is always parked in front of that wall. I also don't think many away fans would notice it, as it wouldn't be facing them as they walk towards the stadium.

I like the idea of a mural. Maybe the one where Gareth and Ugo are holding the cup?

Paul Dews, Boro's Media Manager was delighted by this Humpty. He has been desperate for fans to come forward with thoughts and ideas of ways to customise the stadium and outside the stadium.

Are you aware of the unusual Joe Mercer mosaic sign outside Manchester City's ground?

Oh wow. That’s fantastic Rob. Glad to hear it’s got the support of the club. Something like that would be really great.

And there is the Arthur Wharton mural in Darlington.
Am sure Arthur Wharton Foundation organiser Shaun Campbell would help with an estimate but also I think he would be keen to offer any advice etc because it is Ugo Ehiogu.

Joe Mercer memorial is interesting also because it is a two sided sign on the approach to the ground. Fans stream past it and some will no doubt touch it in passing for good luck. So, you don't have to put a memorial on a wall.

I initially was thinking it to be linked to Carling Cup win.

Humpty's suggestion is excellent - Ugo and the current England manager.

A mural on an external wall of the stadium is preferred choice - SW corner seems decent as well for lots of fans to see it. Another option would be a bronze statue outside the East Stand with plaque.

The joe Mercer memorial looks good and there would be plenty of spaces around the ground/club shop/ticket office to locate it where fans could see it.

If the club are willing to allow a painting on an external wall then that would be a bit of a no brainer for me rather than a building away from the ground if a mural was the preferred option.

I like this idea in and around the existing statues and ayresome park gates. I do like the idea of the mural but there needs to be a big enough wall to do it justice. Edit - Humptys idea on the panelling would certainly work.

I’ve had a suggestion of the huge grey panelled area to the left of the windows in this picture. That would be some statement piece.View attachment 31762
Yeah, I thought you meant having it on the panelled area originally. We had one of Maccarone scoring that goal against Steau on the NW corner.......not sure whether it's still there?

Would be great if we could have them all around the outside of the stadium to be honest. You could have one of Ali, and maybe Juninho holding the Carling cup.
