UK and USA to announce deal to reduce tariffs

What are your predictions?
It is pretty naive to think that the UK can get anything positive from this US regime. They already control the UK and they aren't going to loosen that control. I'll bet that once the 'deal' is announced Trump will start to crow about how he fooled the UK into giving away a lot while gaining nothing.

It isn't just desireability, their cars don't meet our safety or emission standards either.
 
Whatever is announced can only be a very limited deal covering only a fraction of US/UK trade. A real comprehensive trade agreement would take months at least to produce.

This 'deal' has been produced in a few weeks because Trump needs to be able to pretend that his strategy to bring countries to heel is working. He has selected his most pliant vassal to take part in the performance. I don't think China or the EU will take much notice.

Pundits are already saying it will be not much more than a reduction in some tariffs, for which the UK gives up the digital tax on US tech corps though the UK gov will spin it as a good deal because they haven't surrendered the NHS or food standards.
 
The sporty type of BMWs come from the USA into the UK. BMW have a massive factory is South Carolina. I am sure these cars meet our emission standards.

The Tesla's in the UK may actually come from Berlin.

However we do send a lot more UK made vehicles to the USA - Land Rovers, Range Rovers, Jaguars, Minis etc

Tesla only make the Model Y in Germany.

If it's the other models they'll come from the USA or China.

The US factory for BMW only makes the X-models and they'll be compliant with all global markets; they don't mess around. Hilariously their biggest export market is China. Nice one Don.
 
Trump I am sure will try to get as much good publicity as possible out of the announcement.

It will be about reducing tariffs which can be agreed quickly and must seen as announcement on raising tariffs.

Some positivity please, a lot of the negativity of the board currently and to some extent the Media in this country is dragging everyone's moods down.
 
If what Lutnick says is true (I know) the UK has got nothing but is about to be flooded with US beef and other toxic foods.

OMG Mandelson has gone beyond grovelling. Incredible. Worshipping the God King. Total humiliation. No independent state would act like this in public.

You mean the return to the status quo ante with respect to steel and aluminium and the still reduced access for cars? The UK has gained nothing it didn't have before Trump but has given the US access to all areas. It has agreed to lose out permanently.

Starmer just responded to a question asking if the UK is better off than it was 6 months ago by saying that the reporter should have asked if the UK is better off than it was yesterday. That's a win is it? It is just sinking further into abject vassalage. It can only be a matter of time before Trump decides to annex the UK. Unlike Canada, there will be little resistance.
