Unconscious Woman on Dockside Road

It is a real safety issue and needs addressing. As people have said, they need to stop vehicles entering dockside road from the cargo fleet end before the game finishes. I also think they should move or ticket anyone parked up anywhere on that road. The road can then safely be split between cars using the left lane and pedestrians using the right all the way down to the rail crossing at the Navigation. The coaches that park up close to the stadium force a bottleneck of cars and people that is completely unnecessary. They should be made to use the stadium car park.

In an ideal world the road should be closed up to the railway crossing because that is the pinch point until the road is clear. Issue is the trans store access is beyond this and this is where the car came from. I presume they would need permission to close the road for 30-60 mins after or before a game but not sure how you can stop people going in and out of business premises

Do people think a flashing 20mph warning sign on Dockside Road on matchdays would be a good idea. Similar to what you get outside some schools that only come on when school starts and ends.

The stadium hasn't moved further away but I think people have become less patient in the quarter of a century since it was built. I drive to grounds all over the country and very rarely park any closer to a stadium than at Middlesbrough. A 15 minute walk to the car is standard. And then not expecting to be on the go before 6pm is also the norm.
I live near a primary school and in the last couple of years more and more cars park around my street. The cars now park on double yellows, on the corner of the street and for the first time are starting to overlap peoples drive ways. People need to be closer and closer to their destinations.
When we go to places like Blackburn or the West Midlands no one can drive away for half an hour after the match because the streets are closed. It isn't a unique situation at the Riverside. But the chemical works does mean that access has to be left open in case of any problems there.
You're right about the stadium's distance to the town centre but it's now further from where people live and it takes longer to get home from the ground (a lot longer in some cases) for many.

There appeared to be more parking around Ayresome and buses were far more accessible local to the ground.

The park and ride idea mentioned sounds great but where would those coming from north, south and west of the town pick up buses from?

Lol. As if these goons would pay the slightest bit of attention to a flashing sign.
People do slow down outside schools. Drivers might get the message there are pedestrians including possibly children.
This is before as well as after. But also reviewing again when cars can enter that zone after a game.

I personally don’t think that would matter, flashing lights don’t stop cars, road closures do, it is some mitigation but not enough.
I see speeding cars on the same stretch when I am selling fanzines before the match. Not necessarily football traffic and not always taking care with pedestrians about.

Anyone know whether she's okay?

It didn't look too good.
No ambulance service T ground and had to come from elsewhere, late.
What the hell do the police and security do after the match. Loads of idiots desperate to go somewhere driving through crowds of people in the dark. They should be kept in the car parks.

The first ambulance on the scene was the private ambulance which was on duty at the ground with paramedics followed shortly by the emergency ambulance which was called by people who witnessed the incident. Think praise needs to go to the lady who assisted her, believe she was a nurse.
Think the police initially came from the ground once news had filtered back to the stadium as a chief steward also attended.
The big issue was the amount of people and cars trying to get past not helped by the car which hit the lady still on site and many people standing around.
Can’t really blame any emergency services for failing to respond. Did well in the circumstances.
As above a female nurse did really well sitting with the lady and checking her out before passing into the paramedics.

I've seen a number of incidents over the past few years with people being hit by cars down there. Nothing major thankfully but there were two guys just a few weeks ago who were very lucky not to sustain serious injuries after a driver came out of one of the units and went straight into them. Basically the driver was looking the other way (to see oncoming traffic) and didn't think that there might be people in the road despite being surrounded by them. Utterly bizarre.

The biggest single improvement would be no cars coming towards the stadium beyond the roundabout at Works Road near Prossers. That would at least keep the right lane largely free and prevent the squeeze when cars are passing.

A speed limit up to that point would also make sense although I think even 20mph might be too much. In my younger years I'd have scoffed at the idea as I thought most people were reasonable and would act sensibly but the reality is you can't trust that people will show any duty of care to others.

I think pedestrians could help a little too. There isn't enough room for the idiots that insist on slowly walking three- and sometimes four-abreast in the right hand lane. It causes big bunch ups of pedestrians with people then moving into the left lane (with traffic coming from behind) to get past them. There really needs to be more consideration shown by everyone when essentially we're all trying to do the same thing - get home.

The lady was OK in the end is what I have heard.
Mark from Middlesbrough Supporters Forum has been in discussions with the club today about the incident and what can be done gong forward. The suggestion on here that this is addressed by the Safety Advisory Group seems a sensible idea.
What Scrote suggests is just as at Blackburn where all traffic is held on the main road after a game to allow people to filter up the hill towards Darwen. It might frustrate car drivers and coach passengers more but as Scrote says we are all trying to do the same thing, get safely home.

Happened again today. Driver of a black BMW deliberately drove into a pedestrian to push them out the way. I've got the reg so I'll report it to the police, but I doubt they'll care.

Worse than ever yesterday, cars parked all over the place picking up post match between the stadium and the crossing. Someone drove across the crossing against the flow of pedestrians then just stopped half blocking the access to the crossing. It's all double yellows, police and council enforcement could easily bag the lot of them

On a different note (this isn't excusing any of the driving incidents detailed above) some of the pedestrian activities after the match have become more and more risky. The area around the cinema, bottom end of Marton road etc is chaos with people streaming across wherever and whenever they like. I'm not sure why people think the usual risks don't apply.
