VACCINE ESTIMATE

Bit of a side question....... once you've had the vaccine will you still wear a mask?

As far as I'm aware the vaccine is to prevent the host being sick from infection - there is no evidence from a study as yet that it prevents that host spreading a virus if infected.

Happy to be corrected, but until they say it's OK the mask will probably be mandatory.

That is my understanding.

At 2m per week all the over 50s and front facing NHS staff will have had one jab in 6 weeks time say the end of February. So I find to believe these estimates of the Summer for over 50s hard to believe. We are talking 15m people.

There will be people who refuse or aren't bothered etc say 30% of the population group.

Currently mid 70s - been offered and accepted an appointment next Thursday.

My understanding is that all the rules remain in place ( hands, face, space etc) after the jab as they are not sure if it prevents transmission although it is unlikely that you will get very sick

I am sure there are some private ones if you are willing to pay £150 plus per jab and don't want too many. Like WW2 there was the black market.

I'm against making the vaccine available for payment personally. If the likes of Instagram Influencers, celebrities and professional sportspeople had access to it from some Harley Street consultant simply because they had a lot of money I'd be royally ***ed off.

The latest estimates are that all over 50s and people with health conditions will have received the vaccine by mid to late March. After that, and in my opinion, priority needs to be by employment sectors with Health and Education top of the list.

May I ask why?

If it doesn't affect supply of the vaccine to the NHS then I don't see an issue if people want to pay for it to be vaccinated quicker.
It must affect supplies from somewhere. Or is someone knocking it up in a tin bath in Harley Street.

It will affect NHS supply, and to other nations health services which are also in need.
Hence why I said if it doesn't affect NHS supply.
Government has already ordered X amount of vaccines hasn't it? What's stopping private companies ordering vaccines aswell?

Possibly the governments who have supported the financing of most (every?) vaccine development.

Government's around the world have already put their orders in from various different countries and I'm assuming already come to financial agreements with those companies yes?
So I don't see why private companies cannot do the same and when countries have received their orders that private companies cannot then be supplied?

As for the Norway story I'm surprised you have posted that. It's only going to get the anti vax folks wound up.

Not orders. Funding of the research.

The procurement or distribution of vaccines should not in my view be seen as equivalent of normal commerce. Therefore, I dont agree with being able to 'jump the queue' so to speak based on financial ability. It just doesn't sit well with me morally. Maybe one day, but the priority for now must remain that of vaccinating as many as possible in order of vulnerability
