VAR at a new low

Toti moved into the path of a cross that came in from a distance, he chose to jump and make a clearance with his head. That headed attempt came of the top of his dipped head as he tried to redirect the ball to his left (to the player that slipped?). He could've headed back where it came from or to his right.

Toti fluffed whatever clearance he was trying to make (no doubt influenced by Salah's position) and got underneath the ball, either way what he did was a deliberate act to play the ball and he was under control in his attempt at doing it, that fact he got it wrong doesn't mean he wasn't in control.

Control of the ball does not mean the ball at your feet with time, otherwise every single header or volley would be determined as not in control. Control is an unimpeded act to play the ball, getting that wrong does not equal lack of control.

The interpretation of the rules in this instance is correct, whether or not the rules are fair in this instance is another debate entirely and has nothing to do with VAR or the officials that this game.

Read the rules. Toti purposefully jumps to header the ball, which means Salah is no longer offside.
It was not up to Toti to decide if Salah was offside. That is the job of the officials. Salah was offside when the ball was played and the flag should have went up then. Are we now saying that if the linesman is too slow to put his flag up then a a player can be onside?
The fact that we all have different interpretations of the VAR decision means that VAR is useless.

That's not the rules, as soon as Toti made a deliberate attempt to play the ball a new phase of play started that means Salah is onside. Read them yourself, there's 2 video examples as well.

Kane won a penalty against Germany after being played onside by a touch from the German defender after an attempted through ball by Grealish...

I believe this was the incident that prompted the clarification from IFAB.

The Salah goal is ridiculous and should be offiside. However, it’s not the fault of either the officials or VAR that it wasn’t. It’s the nonsensical interpretation that they are instructed to give in that situation.

I have a similar problem with strikers who stand unmarked, several yards offside in front of goal, when the ball is played out wide to a winger. Provided that the striker remains behind the winger/ball for the ensuing cross, they inevitably score a legitimate tap in, despite the fact that the only reason they are able to do so is because they were yards offside to start with.

I think part of the problem is linesmen are practically redundant for offside and don't raise their flags soon enough with var. Var and the rule changes have complicated something simple, stop this first phase second phase its bollox. Manipulating rules and complicating matters mean a simple game to officiate is becoming more like rugby union how can you explain to kids in school teams the rules for offside now. The beauty of football is its simplicity anyone can play and know the rules. I know what big jack would think of it.

That’s the thing isn’t it? Without VAR for the Wolves third Lino just flags. Goal still gone. Probably never gets as far as the goal. We speculate but it’s not a biggie. So that’s not VAR’s fault. Indeed if we don’t have VAR both onfield decisions stand. So it’s a not really a reason to oppose or support VAR. As it made no difference.

What is a reason to support VAR is that the WBA equaliser was scored by a player who would without question have been sent off a minute earlier.

I literally spent less time and effort on the entirety of my GCSE'S than a couple of people on this thread have spent in arguing about an offside decision in a match involving two teams they dont support.
Mind you I did get all F's.
