Variant of concern in South Africa

What are you on about?

I simply made a comparison that is relevant, whether you like it or not. It is relevant because anyone who says we need to learn to live with covid is shot down with comments like "I would rather lock down than die". We expect sub Saharan Africa to live with malaria, that is an easy disease to control.

Your comparison between deaths is nonsense as malaria effects only a small portion of the globe and is much deadlier than covid. A child in africa dies every 2 seconds from malaria, yet we expect them to "live with it".

If the comparison makes you feel uncomfortable, then good, it should.

It doesn't make me feel uncomfortable at all because it's nonsense spouted to try to deflect from the need to try and control a deadly virus.

Like most of yours posts on Covid.

I don't expect people to "live with" malaria.
Nor do I think countries in Africa and South America just let it run amok without taking measures to limit its impact.

Oh good, I wondered why I posted that, good that you explained it to me.

I thought I posted it because it's a cause I care about, and one that needs highlighting. It seems I am just argumentative.

TC you know nothing about me, don't pretend you do. You carry on dismissing others points of views all you want, insult if you want too. Whilst you were typing that 4 children in africa died of malaria.

We could all die any day from anything but we don't worry about that.

I really have little interest in spending the next 10 years or more of my life dealing with new variant and getting more and more jabs.

To suggest we just keep locking down is nothing short of ridiculous. Let's just cancel life.
Nope, I've read this thread over and over. Can't find anywhere were anyone argues we should "keep locking down".

As per jabs: Flu IS endemic. It's been around for ever. Yet. We still have yearly jabs for that because of different variants (I know the two disease aren't directly comparable but just using an example)

Are you against flu jabs?

There is a difference between stops transmission, and completely stops transmission

edit: didn't realise that image was so big :ROFLMAO:
I should have posted that, but forgot I had saw it 😂
Gotta love JBM!

Aye, and in that same timeframe covid is killing at least 10x that, and that’s assuming covid numbers are accurate (which they’re not).

People/countries care about things relevant to their risk, and fund/control relative to their risk, which is the right thing to do.

The problem with malaria is that people who have the money to help fund that don’t, or not enough.

There is one person that does though (Bill Gates), and he still gets **** from anti vax loons.

I refuse my flu jabs.

not sure how what % of the population have been vaccinated in Southern Africa, but the risk of variants being generated in the poorer nations was predicted unless the wealthy nations shared the vaccines from when they were available, just looking after your own was never going to work, sounds like some chickens maybe coming home

But it isn't the amount of people it's killing solely. It's the number that are killed over time. malaria has killed more people than every war added together. It is the single biggest killer from disease, on the planet. that it kills children disproportionately is another factor, about 75% of deaths are in the under 5's.

Whilst we should do something about covid, we shouldn't be lambasting someone who thinks we should just accept the situation, we have done that in Africa for decades. It's a clear case of dealing with what's on the news, not necessarily what we should be dealing with. Malaria is, relatively, easy to eradicate. We know how to, there just isn't the apatite to address it.

Meanwhile board members are jumping on each others backs for different opinions on what we should do about covid. Learn to live with it is an option, though not one I ascribe to. It is clearly an option, as it is the option the world selected for malaria.

Fund/control relative to their risk is a cop-out. Let me say this again, 37 billion on T&T. That would eradicate malaria. We know how to, we just will not fund it.

At his point the unvaccinated deserve everything they get. They are either too stupid or brainwashed and can not be helped.
If we could just fly them off to their own Island to infect each other I would be up for it.

But we stuck with them, spreading their lies, stupidity and disease. Putting others at risk and putting a burden on the NHS.

Oh no, I agree on that, but the developed world looks at that as a small problem now, and not with the potential to overwhelm healthcare. I'm certain the places which struggle with Malaria don't think that mind, but they don't have the money to help themselves. They should be helped by others, but some people don't like sending funding abroad or for issues which don't help them personally, as they're selfish pricks.

In the last 20 years, malaria deaths have halved, and it is still trending down.

My bet is, the rate this vaccine came out, and what we've learnt in a tiny amount of time, will massively accelerate vaccines for other issues, which are deemed a less imminent risk to world health.

When covid gets down to 400k deaths a year (or say 400k excess, as it may replace flu deaths), it will likely be looked on as less importance as Malaria, or will get less additional funding.

37bn for T&T is a nightmare, we all know that, but we know who to thank for that, our good old Tory chums. Tory supporters would probably rather we spent that money on us (or put in Tory back pockets) than give to Africa mind.

Wow you must be so tough!

do you get them free? If so I’d love to know the logic of refusing something that can stop you getting seriously ill
Yes I get them free ☺

I take the decision not to take them because when I do I become ill and spend the whole winter period with every bug going.

Yet when I don't take it im usually far healthier.

So yeah, that's my reasoning. I hope that meets with your standards.

Haven`t got the up to date data but.......as of the 15/11

Everything else you said I agree with

Country% of population fully vaccinated as of 15/11/21
Botswana14.90%
Eswatini21.29%
Lesotho15.72%
Namibia10.61%
South Africa22.32%
Zimbabwe17.93%

maybe it was someone else, but there was a response about money and governments, was busy, came back and it was gone
Must have been admin. Wasn't me.

I hear the government have put scotch egg makers on red alert and councils have been readied to tape up benches and kid's playgrounds.
