Viktor Gyökeres

How do you figure this? Double the chances? Gyokeres has had 47 more shots than Chuba. Unless I'm just not following what you're saying.

His conversion rate is 10% better than Gyokeres.
Double the chances was definitely the wrong way to put it by me, probably the worst explanation ever, but send me the link to the stats and I'll try and explain with those numbers.

But it will probably be like Chuba xG 22, scored 28, so +6 (i.e 1.27 over xG), Gyokeres xg 19, scored 21 so +2 (i.e 1.1 over xG), so there's like a 17% real difference. If you back work that from say 28 goals, it puts Chuba on needing 22 to get it and Gyokeres on needing 25, i.e a real difference of three rather than 4.5 as it appears (only 1.5 goals difference, but a 33% difference)

Still a notable difference of course, but then if you factor what each of those have had to do to get those chances prior to them getting them, ie chuba hold the ball sometimes, lay off, arrive late in the box v gyokeres hold the ball every single time, fight two defenders and make a goal it's not going to be making his chances easier, he'll probably be knackered when he gets most of them. Again all minor stuff, but it all adds up.

Then couple that with Gyokeres 11 assists from effectively a lone striker (2nd in the whole league), to Chuba's 2 as a number 10 (doesn't make top 100) and that adds up, as does how they both impact the way each of their teams play.

Gyokeres played practically every minute of every single game too, which is some going for what he does.

I bet most teams would be better off with Gyokeres, but any would gladly accept either, and having both would be unplayable.

Coventry fans I was talking to before the match last Monday were saying that a deal was all done for him to go to Wolves at the end of the season even if Coventry were promoted.
Time will tell if that is the case.

I thought he was superb last night.
Always gives Coventry an out ball, occupies 2 defenders leaving others in space and holds it up well enough to allow the 9 behind the ball to get up the pitch.

Gyokeres was the difference between the two sides last night. He gave Coventry a platform up top that we simply didn't have.

I assume Carrick would like to have someone with similar attributes in the squad, and not have to use Crooks as a make-do alternative.
I'd argue the difference between the teams last night, imho, was they defended as a compact midfield unit & defence.. & played only on the counter..

Difference between the game at Cov was they got players closer to Gyokeres last night..

Chuba played a similar thankless role for us under Warnock, and really struggled.

I would have begrudgingly doffed my hat to the big Swede last night, because he's a powerhouse with stamina. A real menace without being an unsporting bruiser.

His embrace with Paddy in the first leg was a nice touch too. Can see why Cov's fans treasure him.

What an embarrassing take this is!

How many big target men carry the ball at pace over the distances he can?
I didn't see that last night, or in the previous game.. I've not seen anything of him that suggests he's worth the £25m Cov we're said to be asking.. 20 goals is excellent, but not seeing it in the player..

I've seen him ranting & raging at his team mates & commentator saying - that - is his usual way.. was bad enough for team moral when Rav did it..

If they get to the PL, we'll see what he's got about his game over, big, strong & gobby..

If PL clubs had wanted him he would have gone already - 20m is not a large fee given PL spending power. It seems rare for PL clubs to buy strikers from the Championship, it’s such a big step up.
It’s only early in the window though, clubs start to panic once the season starts, injuries happen, main targets don’t land etc
