Vinicius Junior "mono" chants

I pray Bellingham doesn't move to Madrid, he's a generational talent who shouldn't be subject to vile abuse that will follow.

I also pray he doesn't go to Liverpool... I can recommend a team in red that play in the north east that could do with him though.

Jude to Madrid is already a done deal I think. Shame really as I wanted him in the Prem. He's such a fantastic player.
Some midfield for Madrid on the horizon.

Eventually losing Modric and Kroos will be massively softened by Bellingham, Valverde, Camavinga and Tchouameni - Scary.

I think it's difficult to argue with the red card.

But you have to have a lot of sympathy with him, the abuse he suffered, the lack of action by both referee and his manager and the choke hold on him all without doubt contributed to the outcome.

The authorities, it seems on this evidence at least, haven't got the desire to tackle it, I guess because it will damage the La Liga brand.

Money is king, sadly, to the detriment of everything else.

There are reports that during Madrids game in Valencia Vinicius Junior was the target of racial slurs from large sections of the Valencia support.

He's accused Spain of being a racist country and said the matter of racism is in La Liga is fairly common. He further said that the Spanish Federation and rival teams encourage such behaviour.

Carlo Ancelotti was quoted after the game as saying
"What we saw today is unacceptable. An entire stadium chanting racial slurs. I told the referee that he should have stopped the match".

It really doesn't look good for La Liga.

There are isolated incidents that rear their ugly heads in English football every now and then such as the incident with Son who was abused by a Chelsea fan but they are isolated incidents carried out by individuals. Whats happening in La Liga seems to be ingrained in the footballing culture there and on a different level all together.
It's not just the football culture in Spain. My wife is from Colombia and has been racially abused the times we have gone there on holiday. She doesn't want to go back there anymore.

The lad was assaulted to start with, ok he deserved his second yellow for reacting, but frankly I thought his reaction to that choke hold was restrained and the person putting him in the hold should be retrospectively banned for several matches.

It is poor from VAR officials not to report the choke hold. Makes you wonder whether that was due to poor reviewing or a touch of racism. Racism is rife in Spain in ordinary life, certainly in the south anyway from some things I’ve witnessed over the last 10 yrs

When they asked John Barnes about racism abroad he said we should sort our own house out first.I have never seen him on television since.
In fairness he is very active in the podcast world and was only on telly at that time because he was launching a book about it. Barnes’ views are a little bit more empathetic towards those who’ve been less exposed to racial awareness and he is less focused on shaming people about it.

He has called out the hypocrisy of English people complaining about racism abroad and being offended on other people’s behalf, when our own game still has its own issues. Ultimately he has a problem with the way we are trying to solve those issues here, by shaming everyone else and (for want of a better term) virtue signalling about it.

Two ref cards needed, suspend the ref and the VAR ref.. plus a 10 point deduction for racism.

Didn't Traore get one overturned for us in similar circumstances a few years ago? Against Sunderland I think. No-one expected us to win the appeal but we did.

If the Spanish FA won't take action maybe UEFA or FIFA need to?

No fans for Spanish teams allowed in European competition? Escalating through to Spanish teams banned altogether.

Obviously they won't because money talks, but as ever it can be tackled (albeit not solved, that's a much harder ask) if the will is there. It's not though is it? Not really.

If they had anything about them La Liga clubs should agree before next season that they'll walk off every time it happens. Whatever the consequences. They can't dock them all points.

A few weeks of that and clubs won't even need to police it, the vocal racists fellow fans will do it for them.

I think he did get one overturned, didn't it happen fairly early on in the game?

I think in this case its an obvious red and unless they Spanish FA allow mitigation it surely will stand?

Hope it doesn't though and the Spanish PM wading in with his support for Vini Jr can only help his cause.

It’s truly shocking but sadly it’s not a surprise look at how the crowds at the Catalan GP treated Lewis.

It’s a cultural thing ingrained in Spanish society that is reflected at how the Spanish la liga official reacted.

I had no idea that this culture existed in Spain although I dont watch Spanish football. I only became aware of this because of a post on social media.

I visited Valencia three weeks ago and came away with the impression that it was a beautiful and sophisticated city. I was quite envious of their culture and lifestyle. Quite the opposite now. 😔

Players should have walked off. I don't think we are too far away from that happening. Its abhorrent that this still happens, and even more so when both teams had black players on the pitch.

I went to watch Valencia v Atletico about 20 odd years ago and both fans were doing monkey chants. It was vile, and my girlfriend at the time was in tears.

Not exactly sure what turning the lights off on Cristo Redentor for an hour achieves, but I suppose it doesn't do any harm.
