Vossen, Fletcher & McDonald

Great expectations for our yet to be signed mystery strikers. Based on the whispers and the hints and tips it does look like Forss, Muniz & Armstrong are our top targets/most wanted strikers. Straight away we have folks saying they’re not good enough and at the same time capable of scoring 20 goals a piece. I think we can draw some closer comparisons with players of the recent past, come up with a few sensible predictions that tick the boxes and get us to where we need to go. 30 Goals from the 3 strikers that come in (my fag packet calculation)

First of all 2014/15 Jelle Vossen is exactly what we need. He goal tally did not meet the hype but his contributions got us to where we needed to be. Marcus Forss is a finisher and capable of doing the business.

Next up ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ we missed out last summer to Fulham for our Brazilian wonderkid, something every boro fan since TLF has craved. More known for his traditional British number 9 skills I think than for kerlon seal dribbles and wizardry. Ashley Fletcher in 2019/20 I think is a fair comparison, scored some cracking goals, got into some great positions and looked to be on his way up.

Adam Armstrong ‘The Golden Goose’ the answer to everyone’s dreams, the perfect championship striker. He reminds me more of Scott McDonald, I don’t say this in a derogatory manner I think all three of these strikers are just what we need and if we get them over the line I think they will compliment each other and the squad very well. Scott McDonald small chewy, shouty nippy, turny, shooty. I’m guessing he tops our scrounging chart this season. Always happy to be proved wrong.. this is what I think we’ll be looking at with a licked finger stuck in the air.

Marcus Forss - Jelle Vossen 7 in 33 - 2014/15 season

Rodrigo Muniz - Ashley Fletcher 11 in 43 - 2019/20 season

Adam Armstrong -Scott Mcdonald 12 in 38 - 2010/11 season

Three good strikers. Automatic Promotion could be on if we get it right..

i actually thought fletcher was half decent but low on confidence i could see him doing well under wilder, Sporar to me was last years jelly vossen, neither player wilder types. scotl mcdonald was ok but not worth the money

What the hell are you talking about
I’m suggesting that our overhyped/underappreciated transfer targets might well be fantastic for us in the same way as past overhyped/underappreciated strikers.

Marcus Forss
Jelle Vossen 7 in 33
2014/15

Rodrigo Muniz
Ashley Fletcher 11 in 43
2019/20

Adam Armstrong
Scott Mcdonald 12 in 38
2010/11

That’s my take on it anyway.

I liked Fletcher, very much a player lacking in confidence as seen on Sunderland till I die documentary. Also confirmed in a recent podcast. I thought he was better than Britt and that him and Bamford would have been our front two for years to come!

Sporar did have a similar vibe with the fans, Karanka’s rigid formation didn’t do many strikers a favour. Tough for them both to suddenly become something that they weren’t.

Like Monk ALL of Strachan’s signings were overpriced, not worth the money paid out. At best they were bad managers.

Understand the logic of our Strikers getting 25-30goals between the 3 of them, wilder even said himself how crucial this was from the Strikers and how last year we missed this - Sporar 8, Dunc 7, Coburn 4 - Total 19 (in the championship)

If (when) we signed Foss, Muniz & Armstrong I think they'd get very close if not break 30

Scott McDonald had pretty much a 1 in 3 strike rate for us, would take that now.
100% we were still missing Viduka, Hasslebaink & Yakubu.. still expecting strikers of their calibre just to walk back into the squad at some point.
Thought it was going to be a thread about strikers slated by Boro fans but were ok really!
Kind of is, inspired by a a few threads and a few posters really. See a fair bit on social media too.

I don't know about anyone else but if we spend decent money on 3 new strikers and they only get 30 goals between them then I'm not sure that is good enough. Yes, it is better than last year's no hopers but to be getting promoted we should be looking at 40 from 3. Last years 3 promoted teams scored 106, 74 & 73. Mitrovic got over 40 on his own. I can't see our midfield and defenders getting 40 goals so we need our strikers to get them. We scored 59 last season. We need to add 15 to that total at least.

I dont disagree one bit, however over the last few years my bar for strikers scoring has been set low (very low) so I'm happy with double figures.
