Warnock on Britt .. Brutal Honesty ..

He's the epitome of inconsistent and yes, it's easy to judge with the benefit of hindsight.

I suspect the club won't be spending that type of money for quite some time, if ever, its too much of a risk.
The club will spend miles more if they go up.
If they don't they will do a 2016-17 again which was ridiculous.

I'm not so sure we would - I always recall Gibson's admiration at the way Burnley didnt overspend when they went up the first time under Dyche, looking to consolidate and bounce back the following season, if they went down at the forst attempt.

We have had far worse strikers than Britt over the years. His transfer fee and purported salary are part of the reasons why some people get on his back. None of that is Britts fault, that is solely Gibsons, as he agreed it. I wont be sorry when he signs for Bristol City, Fulham, WBA or whoever pays him from July. I doubt Boro will be near the head of that particular queue.

I posted on the old board the comments a Forest fan told me in 2017. He will score goals in snatches, largely against teams outside the top 6. He will miss lots of gilt-edged chances then score the odd quality goal to lure you in. He was right.

Britt is largely a flat track bully type striker. I will say in his defence, he has never played for a Boro manager who has played to his strengths. I think he would benefit playing alongside a Duncan Ferguson type Forward in a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 system (just my thoughts)

Britts goals kept us up last season
He stopped Forest getting relegated to the Third Division on the last day of his last season there as well - because he didnt score enough during the other 40+ games.
Hes not worth what we pay him.
we wont miss him when he goes.

Obviously he's got talent just , for some reason, it's not on display. Wish it was
Hes had four years to prove himself and I think we can safely report - he doesnt have the ability to perform consistently at Championship [2nd Division] level.
He represents a serious mistake by the Manager and the Board agreeing to pay over-inflated [Premier] wages and a bloated transfer fee.
He might be a decent bloke, but as a Second Division Striker - for a club aiming for promotion - he cant cut it.
Time for Boro and him to move on.

While nobody would disagree with the fee/wages being more than we should have paid as Warnock says that's not Britt's fault
As he's scored 45 in 3 and a half seasons it's likely he'll get 3 (I think 5) more this season - which would average 12 a season
He's started 101 times plus 40 odd as sub - so I'd say the transfer fee has overshadowed ok but not great goal returns
What has been overshadowed is Warnock was talking about the rest of the season - and as he's such a straight talker it appears likely he'll be here until the summer
I think he's saying Boro will offer him much less - so take it or leave it - tell your agent to get real about how much you'll get

Like I said : "He represents a serious mistake by the Manager and the Board agreeing to pay over-inflated [Premier] wages and a bloated transfer fee."

I don’t know why boro fans hold the fee and wages against Britt. He’s clearly our top striker and he’s scored more goals for us since 2000 than anyone else. I know that they have all come in the championship but we are a championship club.

I think , as it's been said before, it's creating an expectation. When you've paid top whack at a restaurant etc you don't just want microwaved food.
You're paying for something and there's an expectation that the player will deliver- isn't that what the agents were trying to sell to the club's?

Isn’t that Homeserve guy (advert) Britt with a proper beard ? Taste of his future endeavors perhaps or just hinting he could be about to heat up ? 👊😬

I don't think Norwich spent too much when they went up two seasons ago. In fact if anything didn't they bring in a few more players for this season? Going up/down a couple of times can be quite a good way to go. IMO.

I have a mate who is a Norwich fan. He has said that Norwich's aim is to cement themselves as a top 25 club! (I guess he's joking) but if you make yourself too good for the Championship, you have the enjoyable promotion seasons (like this one and two years ago), and the tougher seasons in the PL. Over time you hope to strengthen enough to stay up more permanently.

Whilst I agree that strategy would pre-suppose you had the fans behind you. Yo-yo club is often used as a daming verdict. If you went down this route and were prepared to accept relegation you could play much freer football in the prem as relegation doesn't scare you, so you are not chasing the elusive 42 points and another year of 100 million and rubbish football.
