Was there ever a better header of the ball in a Boro shirt than this man?

He was the first person I thought of when I saw the thread title. He was awesome, think he only spent a couple of seasons with us. I was gutted when he left, can't remember who he went to.

Carlisle edit Just checked and it was Preston. He did end up back at Carlisle eventually though:oops:

I've no idea who he is. But I'll play along with the educated.
I was heartbroken when he who shall not be named went to Carlisle, he was my hero.
I would put him 2nd in my list, behind John O'Rouke and just ahead of Archie Stephens and Paul Wilkinson.
Unless of course it is in fact John O'Rouke in which case he is top of my list.

Hughie Mcilmoyle

This guy was pretty good in the air as well. Just like Hughie he wasn't that tall but what a leap Peacock had

Just been looking on 11v11 for Hughie's record at the Boro. He is remembered for the 6-2 victory against QPR where we were 2-0down after 10 minutes.
But fun fact his last 8 games for the Boro in April1971 ended in draws
Surely a record

Juninho. He was just unfortunately too short to be able to win many headers but he scored a few good goals with his head for such a little fella.

My first real hero ... got his book which was a decent read but not really in depth about the guys inner self ....its really a jorno sitting with him covering his career through the clubs ..... never touched on why he left Boro as the club clearly didnt want him to go , some personal trama which was just touched on in his book but not revealed... would have been interesting to know after all these years... he was a unique header mainly due to his superb timing when leaping and the infamous hang in the air which is not hearsay but it did happen . Not a tall fellow maybe 5.10" but had a low centre of gravity, long body and powerful legs which gave him tremendous standing still leaping height... the QPR game was a joy to watch

I seem to remember Ian Baird scoring a beautiful diving header from the edge of the box. Against Ipswich I think?
