Watmore scores!

I'm so conflicted on this.

Lovely guy, want him to do well, but that does not help Middlesbrough in the slightest.

If we make the play offs, I guarantee there will be 3 other teams in them, whatever.

If we somehow overhaul Sheffield Utd, the chances of Millwall overhauling us as well is minute

I don't really feel conflicted about this. If DW scored against us in the playoffs and knocked us out, ok, but even then we wouldn't know if it was the difference between being promoted and not.

Amazed we let him go to save a small hit on the wage bill. Our most committed player who gave 100% every time he stepped on the pitch. Could easily come back to haunt us.

If you heard Carricks interview the other week, that wasn’t the sole motivation. Carrick talked about being “fair” to the player as well.

Reading between the lines, Watmore wanted more regular first team football, which couldn’t be guaranteed here. A bid came in which interested Watmore and the club didn’t want to stand in his way.

I think that’s fair enough. He could come back to haunt us, but that’s football. You can’t hold onto players or let them run their contracts down just because there’s a chance he might do well against you in the future.

Good luck to him. Decent finish today!

I just read a Millwall twitter thread about it. They seem very happy with him. Workrate and effort.... Hardly suprising 👌

No bad thing to have a reputation for doing right by players. I doubt this part of the consideration, but if prospective signings know we are a club who treats them fairly, it can't hurt.
