We should all live as the Queen did

What counts as a true patriot? A small portion of someone’s estate would suffice for me. Most if not all of that money has been taxed already. Enough money is pumped into our nation by the tax payer yet the Tory party see fit to waste it.
They do, personally I would like all evading and avoiding schemes to be shut, from the royal exemption and the billionaire offshore schemes and aristocrat and new money trust funds. Tax everyone, without exemption at 15-20% and I bet the nations coffers would be fuller, and the lower and middle classes would be able to hand more to their children.

Can I just ask Finny and I don’t mean to ask this and cause any disrespect, but do you have a family?

I only ask as I know from reading your posts that you have been successful in your career and wondered if you will be leaving any of your self earned wealth to your children (if you have any)?

I can see what you’re saying and tend to agree with it, we have my wife’s parents refusing to go on holidays and be rather reckless with the money they have worked hard to earn as they want be in position when they die to leave some to my wife and our son. We both tell them we neither want nor expect anything and beg them (perhaps beg is a too strong a word) to spend what they have on themselves. However I know in a few years time when me and my wife start to enter retirement and our final few years we will probably feel compelled to look after our son.

I’m not sure that I fancy everything I worked hard to achieve is just handed over to the state (especially if something resembling the current shower are still in charge) but then is a fair that my son potentially gets a hand out just because his parents worked very hard???
Yes - got two lads in their 30’s
Both enjoying themselves - and costing us still and they will get the lot when we go.
But, I enjoy it

I’m only looking at this because I think the current system is broken,
I’m aware there is no silver bullet.

I think the question of the burden on the taxpayers purse is a strong second to the fundamental question of relevance within a modern, progressive society.

But for the purpose of the debate, I think the income that the royal family makes from its wealth and ownership also has to be taken into account.

For example, as the Duchy of Cornwall Charles, and now William, make circa £20m p/a from the 150,000 acres of land that accompanies the title. That's one small example, the royals own an astounding amount of land, even before other assets are accounted for.
Modern progressive society? Where's that?

Modern progressive society? Where's that?
In the context of someone being arrested for holding up a blank sign - that is a very good question.
Also worth reviewing the following data:
Record number of people using food banks
Record number of racial hate crimes
Record number on hospital waiting lists
1 in 3 UK women say they have been the victim of sexual abuse

And the wealthier are getting wealthier
