Wembley Tonight: England v Germany thread. Is it all over for Southgate?

Great run by Saka there but he seemed to lose confidence the closer he got to goal
I think he hesitated slightly as he was hoping an option would appear to the left of him.

Should have been more ruthless and driven on as no way they would have caught him.

I think Southgate learned a few things tonight. The keepers not very good and Maguire isn't nearly sharp enough. Bellingham has been good tonight and has probably played his way into a starting role. Saka is better on the right. Ignore the naysayers of sterling. Probably a few other things too

Fair result we do need to cut out the errors otherwise we won't be troubling the knockout stages in Qatar.

But flashes of the team England need to be. It's the hope that kills you!

Credit for getting back in the game, but we failed to win because of individual errors.

Southgate's stubborn decision to pick Maguire cost us dearly.
Should also have had Ramsdale in goal for both matches.

In summary:

Great second half and a game that shows why the Nation's League was introduced. Much better games than pointless friendlies against weaker teams.

Southgate gets credit for the changes. Those changes show that Saka is ahead of Foden for that right attacking position.

Luke Shaw also makes a mockery of the argument for not selecting players based on their minutes in club football. He was brilliant and gave England proper width and balance. Never ever play Saka out of position again.

3-4-3 suits England but the case against Maguire in the back three gets stronger after tonight. Directly at fault for two goals and gave away daft clumsy fools at times.

Finally Jude Bellingham. This kid is the real deal and has to start the World Cup.

Had maguire not been on we win that. He was the difference tonight. I don't like to single out individuals but he was terrible tonight and has looked... Uncomfortable for England lately.

He's much better off in Germany right now. It's the opportunities he's had there that have made him so composed at such a young age.

BVB are the perfect club for him at present.
Think a move to Liverpool is inevitable in the next year though, going from reports in the summer, he would start every game for them.
