Were we that bad?

Front 2 were poor, other than that we did OK.
I said he should have started with Watmore for this game and I was right....as usual

Awful 1st half. Couldn’t have complained if we’d been 2 or 3 down. No energy. Decent 2nd half, stupid mistake and missed chances cost us.
Shows how far we’ve come, when we’re disappointed with a narrow defeat away to the team in 2nd.
Just one of those games.

They just about shaded it for me. Not a great game. Very scrappy, loads of misplaced passes, missed chances. Midfield was poor tonight. Front two as well but they never got many balls into feet but some high balls that were not what we wanted.

No. I said at the time that the delay, as unexpected as it was, would be bad for us as we were on top and it gave Blackburn a chance to reset and get instructions to their players. Two of the top three form teams coming together decided by one goal out of nothing. We win on Saturday and they drop points at Luton and we’re back to where we were!

We've seen a lot worse and probably complained less. I just think its the standards we've set.

We've gone to one of the best home sides in the league who sat 3rd and had 69% possession and missed 2 sitters (and a probable pen) and come away disappointed. Also Blackburns goal was pretty poor.

All this despite really not playing anywhere near as good as we can. So again it's really a testiment to the new high standards we have.

Easily the worst half under Wilder in the first, but we could have won comfortably in the second.
Far more chances than them, and they were big ones rather than edge of the box popshots.

Shame about the result, and the first half performance was concerning, but we're still creating even when playing badly.

We wernt on the game at all 1st half, they dominated throughout the half but we still should have gone in at the interval leading

2nd half evens & again we should have converted at least one of our chances

Ref aas awful, booking Jones when full pelt for a loose ball, whoever came 2nd is boked & a foul in the box on Jones, outside the box & we win a free kick

Poor first half. I think that is also down to how Blackburn played though, they stifled everything we tried to do. Jones barely go a look in.

2nd half we were much the better team.

We really were first half, very passive, no one able to work out a fairly simple conundrum, how to get the ball from back to front.

The second half we could have scored 5 and should have scored 2 and won it. Blackburn did nothing apart from a scruffy opportunist goal second half, no pressure on us at all.

Was just going to say this, we weren't at our best clearly but a lot of credit to Mogga and Blackburn, they played to stop us playing and hit us hard and fast and they were definitely on top.

Saying that, they didn't really have a clear chance all game, we should have had a penalty, Crooks should have scored at the end (and their defender made a good clearance for his first header) and Connelly had a great chance too. Not what we wanted but certainly not doom and gloom like some are suggesting!

Lumley - some. nice footwork. Wasn’t at fault for the goal

Dijksteel - solid performance
Fry - needs to harden the f**k up
McNair - has a mistake in him

Jones - untouchable
Crooks - unlucky not to get a goal at the end
Howson - mr consistency
Tavernier - works hard, won the ball back, good crosses
Taylor - solid performance

Sporar - nice touches, 2nd striker, poor turning
Connolly - needs to sharpen up quick style and bring a lot more to the team A LOT MORE

Watmore - should have been on earlier
Balogun - looks confident, defo a player in there
Coburn - immediately looked better than Connolly

It was not a terrible performance, we kept the ball well and the second half should have had at least one and a penalty shout. It was just one of those games for Connelly, Blackburn closed the space down well and for a striker in his second senior game in a good while, he lacked a bit of match play to change it up. He had a few half chances and snatched at them, maybe trying a bit too hard?

That being said I would start Flo next game, Sporar needs to offer a bit more though, towards the end of the match he showed some nice touches but in the first half I thought he was poor. Players will have good and bad days though, this team will bounce back but I do think it is time to freshen it up a bit. Maybe Payero in midfield for Howson?

I can't disagree with any of that Newy

Performance was below average but with the 2 Crooks headers and the deflected Connelly shot we still had the best 3 chances of the game.

Dress it up how you like but the first half was a shocking Boro performance.
Wilder talked in his pre match press conference how complacency and arrogance are things he can't stand.
That first half it looked like they thought they just had to turn up to stroll it.
The midfield was awful - ALL of them.
The front two couldn't trap a bag of cement in that first half and just did not seem up for it at all.

Second half we improved significantly, Crooks and Jones started to combine better.
Crooks should have buried both headers, but Connolly had two very good opportunities too. The one he skied over was a very poor effort. I'd drop him for saturday.
Tavernier is getting plaudits from some for delivery, but when he takes every wide free kick, there has to be one or two decent balls in by the laws of probability.

IMHO Wilder was spot on to give them a bollocking and call that first half out publicly.
Last night was a great opportunity and a game ripe for winning. A real missed opportunity.
