What the British Public has noticed re consequences of Brexit

The remain campaign was almost entirely based upon the economy, which may have worked if we hadn't just had ten years of austerity!

Apparently Cameron was shocked when he met the Daily Mail for an interview during the referendum campaign and they didn't just parrot his lines, but instead actually critiqued them.

The complacency of Cameron and Osborne, borne of a pliant press effectively parroting their nonsense about the country's credit card etc - meant that they thought they could just say the same lazy **** and people would believe it.

It was one of the first times a Tory didn't play politics on easy mode and we're all suffering the consequences

Genuine question: is there any way a GE can be called early or do we have to wait til May 2024 to get these charlatans, chancers, criminals and incompetents out?
Theoretically possible.

If enough people put pressure on their politicans for a vote, if people say enough is enough and take to the streets and protest in enough numbers. That will not happen in this country though sadly. Mainly because of voter apathy. People just don't seem to care how bad things are. Also because of the power of the Brexitist. Rememebr this is a cult now, that will follow the media lines regardless of reality. INaspit of all th eporblems brexit is causing the BBC is barely mentioning it. Also on here you only have to see how blindly faithful to the cause brexitists are.

They even laughed at the food shortgaes. Their unicorn was so precious that food shortages were funny. Now we can't afford to eat and can't afford to heat our homes, they still haven't apologised. They must still belive in the unicorn. They are just ignoring this thread in the hopes it'l all go away

This is worth a read

I found this statement to be particularly telling

First, and most significant, is Brexit. EU HGV drivers are no longer able to obtain visas to work in the UK. The Road Haulage Association (RHA) estimates that nearly 20,000 European HGV drivers returned to EU countries in 2020.

Hi Ziggy, Do you have a link to that? I’d like to share with a wider audience, if you don’t mind.

Tommo, sorry no direct quote. This was mailed to me by my daughter. I looked at The European Internal Energy Market. There’s plenty of information on line.

I’m slowly ploughing my way through this University of Toulouse (English translation) paper about the value
of the EIEM’s value to the UK (daughter again😉)

Trying to find out exactly what, if any, effect being now outside the IEM has on availability and pricing.

Yep. Cameron and Osborne weren't able to counter the arguments made by Leave about immigration because it was their austerity policies that had actually caused the problems with public services. Cameron's mistake brought us where we are today. Power games of the Bullingdon Club and the rest of us are left to suffer.

That the cycle to return to the EU fold and agreements will take 1 hour.

as of today we are 10 minutes into that cycle.

these islands are along way off hitting the bottom of the cycle.

any news on the 'jobs explosion' at the freeport ?

Gas Prices —Nothing to do with Brexit I’m afraid. Prices are rising across the globe mostly due to sanctions on Russia who continue to keep the gas tap on half open. Meanwhile, US gas supplies are noticing significant changes due to increased supply demand both in North America and Asia.

Did you even look at the LCPEnact figures? The UK is paying way more than the rest of Europe. All down to Brexit.

It's not how I understand the graph that ziggy posted. Whilst it is true that energy prices are rising across the globe, ziggy's graph shows what is being paid by EU countries and what is being paid by the UK. So what accounts for that huge difference?

Wow,

It's so hard to cope with brexit when its causing so much damage to the country and people will just blame ANYTHING to avoid the issue. It's terrible

We already knew the entire leave campaign was based on lies exploiting peoples irrational fears, but this is just getting daft now. The usual posters who were very vocal a few years ago on this have gone very quiet now for some reason. Would love to get their views

Right across the EU energy companies are going bust….

Mainly small or badly run companies. Not hedged (insured) against sudden upward price movements, innit.

Buying, selling TVs or gas…just product.

If you’re in a collective of 477 million people you can get a really good deal on buying those TV’s and gives you customer favoured status.

It’s going to cost a fair bit more for, Lonesome John Bull

Outside 2/3 of MP's voting for an early GE under current legislation, I think I'm right in saying there is a way, but it is in two steps.

First, the Fixed Term Parliament Act would need to be repealed. That would require the legislation to be put forward and Parliament to debate it and then pass it. As we have seen, this can be done quite quickly and there is a large Conservative majority to pass it.

Once that is done I think we revert to the old system where it was entirely up to the PM to choose to dissolve Parliament and call for a new election.

I suspect this will happen, but possibly not until Johnson is an absolute liability and the Tories want or need to take advantage of a bounce in the polls for a new leader.

Behind the scenes the jockeying has begun and the knives are sharpening.

The government will step in of course just like the EU steps in to support increases in commodity prices. Nonetheless if you look over gas prices for the past 10 years there have been spikes in prices which have been higher than today’s prices however the EU heavily subsidized prices back then which gave the impression that prices were stable. The UK however choose not to support subsidies looking at the long term free market values which (at the time) pointed downwards. The long and short of the gas situation is that once the gas tap has been reverted back to normal (ie Russia and US) and the UK can expand its LNG storage facilities then we’ll see (perhaps) cheaper prices. You could argue that the UK’s energy policy changes have also left it at the mercy of the free market and therefore you get into a energy strategy dilemma— which is a complicated affair.

I beginning to believe no Tory wants to lead in the rest of this term, including Boris Johnson.

There's no magic vaccine bounce left, it's only downhill from here.
