When did Subway (sandwiches) get so expensive?

Yes, I know Subway is rubbish, but I said to my son he could have a McDonalds tonight and he said he would prefer Subway. He got a ham footlong meal deal plus bacon which is extra. The total: £9 and 39 new pence !!! I had to check they hadn't made a mistake. Nope, only mistake was made by me agreeing he could have one.

Nearly a tenner for a rubbish sandwich, packet of crisps and a drink. Absolute rip-off!

They certainly aren't cheap.
Often have them pre match for convenience.
The fresh salad ingredients are better for your son than a McDonald's (assuming he eats them!).

We used to get Friday Subways at work pre-Covid and started doing it again for just two weeks last year, stopping when we realised how much the price had gone up.

I know that I have a terrible problem with inflation denial, thinking everything should cost the same as 15 years ago, but a sandwich shouldn't cost the same as a London pint.

Do they still have a “sub of the day”?

I used to know what was on every day at my local one. Tuesday was meatball marinara and Friday was Italian BMT 👍🏻👍🏻

Not had one in about 15 years though

McDonald's and the others are similar now as well. Big Mac meal is now £6, KFC box meal is £8 etc.

Hard to get a cheap lunchtime meal now without the crappy pre-packed supermarket sandwich meal deal.

Just paid £8.49 for 3 scabby pieces of boneless chicken and a tiny box of popcorn chicken, side of beans, 20 chips and a lukewarm coffee from KFC. Wife was out and I was at a late meeting, never again!

What is it that creates that weird tangy subway smell? That smell in their shops puts me right off wanting to eat anything from there.
Agree, it stinks one you get within 20 metres of the place. I've never got it, you can buy much nicer sandwiches elsewhere, or easily make one yourself that's better (and not full of salt and preservatives)

subways are good. How old is your son? Footlong is a lot of sandwich

Apparently there is too much sugar in the bread for it the classified as bread. Although it could be an urban myth

In Ireland the bread is officially categorised as “cake”. So you’re having cake for your lunch with chicken teriyaki filling.

Went through a phase of absolutely adoring subway last year. Gone right off it now. 2 6 inch sandwiches, a pack of cookies a fruit shoot and a water for my kids had me astonished at the price
