When will the working classes

Funny how austerity was no longer an issue during lockdown and money started growing from trees..... Track n' Trace..... contracts for mates..... containers filled with unusable PPE..... furlough.

The working classes cant wake up unless the opposition show what they stand for currently. I'm a Labour supporter and I have no clue what Starmer Labour policies are apart from move to centre left. The swing voters will have even less clue. They'll just vote for the one they see in the papers or on the TV all the time. As it stands Labour are semi invisible.

I really hope Labour have plans and policies up their sleeves that they can knock our socks off with and are holding back. When the next election rolls around, Starmer and all need to go on the attack. It SHOULD be like shooting fish in a barrel with this lot in power. I just worry it wont be.

It's not just now though us it? Milibands manifesto would have made life better for low to middle earners as would browns and corbyns and yet once a old etonian is at the ballet box it's as if we know our place doff our caps and elect our "betters"

The “Working Classes“ won’t wake up because they all think they’re middle class!

I think that's what I was trying to say too! Voting Tory makes people think they are a class above others as they 'think' they are in the same club as Jacob Rees Mogg etc. The facility is that JRM and his ilk look down on us and think we are thick. And this is why the Tories are currently treating the public with utter contempt.

I just think it's media driven. If the media are on your side it appears you're invincible.

The things people say to me on a day to day basis have no evidence in the real world, and come straight from newspapers/ online narrative.

The narrative is clear that the opposition are responsible for the current situation. Corbyn is one of the most hated figures in the UK to a big % of the electorate- there is very little to hate about the man once you scratch the surface.

There wont be a change until the media decides its in their interest for their to be one.

You are over-thinking this, I don't believe they believe they are in the same club, they mostly just believe that voting tory will stop the immigrants crossing the channel and stealing our jobs.

This isn’t a mutual appreciation society, but you’re right, too many people around places like Teesside who might have done relatively well for themselves are under the illusion that they’re in the Tories gang.

You are probably right. Immigrant bashing is all over the TV recently and it nicely deflects from Tory failings even though they are failing to control illegal immigration despite Brexit. It just shows we were sold a pup.

Some truth in this - I meet people who are on modest incomes, rely totally on NHS and other public services, own a modest property, but because they receive no welfare benefits except possibly state pension they think they are no longer working class.

Middle class to me is likely higher education (unless over 75), own a property at least average value for the area, live in area which is over 50% professionals, use private medical services at no stage, have gone to fee paying school at some stage or someone in the family has, had a professional style job or middle manager. Usually speak without a prominent regional accent (unless Scottish or Irish) On Dad's Army its Mainwaring, Wilson, possibly Godfrey and the vicar. Fraser and Jones today would consider them selves middle class, but probably working class in 1940s. I consider them more working class.

The increase in white collar jobs and home ownership (over last 42 years) and higher education participation (last 30 years) has blurred boundaries. These new property owning, white collar but really still working class people are key politically.

My people don't really have a class system or a monarchy. I'm the boss of the bumfaced folk but that's only because I'm hard as f*ck and none of the other bumfaced lads dare challenge me. But I'm getting old now so I know that day will come eventually.
